P-01 versus 75B compact?
« on: December 04, 2011, 11:20:50 PM »
Hi, I am planning to purchase a P-01 or 75B compact for my next firearm.  I would like something slightly more compact than the 75B although I do not have any plans for concealed carry since I live in California.  I can see the differences posted on the CZ site but none of the nearby ranges have either to try.  I was hoping for some firsthand experience from folks who have tried both.  What are the pros & cons of them?  I'm particularly interested to know if there is a difference in feel due to the reported weight difference between them.  Of course, more weight can be good or bad depending on your perspective, so any thoughts are appreciated.

Thanks!

It basically comes down to a slight weight difference (p-01 is alloy frame thus lighter) and whether you like a manual safety or decocker. I prefer the manual safety and the extra weight is no big deal if your not carrying it.

The P01 also has a rail, and rubber grips.

When shooting does the weight difference mean much?

Forgot about the rail, having the rail is nice.

As for grips I'm probably going to change to wood ones anyway.

The lighter weight is better for carry while the heavier weight is better for shooting - catch 22.  I would go with the light weight.  Don't be in such a rush to change out the rubber grips until you give them a fair chance.  I have put the factory rbber grips on most of my cZs, like them a lot.

The weight difference is very slight, we're talking two tenths of a pound. Even with the alloy frame I've had people say the P-01 is heavy. I guess I can see their point too, the P-01 unloaded weighs the same as a loaded Glock 19, not exactly the same but very very close.

I agree with Tekarra, the rubber grips are very comfortable on the P-01. It would be nice if we had more wood choices than Cocobolo though.

Personally, I find the weight difference between the two to be negligible and I've handled both. The local gunshop had a killer deal on a used 75B that I wish I had jumped on. It was loaded, competition fiber optic sights, Cocobolo grips, trigger job by CZ customs and a custom hammer. $439

I'd buy whichever one you can find the best deal on. They're both great shooters.

The rubber grips are nice and very comfortable, but they aren't ideal for concealed carry as they can cause your clothing to bind on them.

Just something to keep in mind.

Clothing????  Almost takes the skin off with IWB and certainly removes excess hair quickly and painfully.

Marshal grips has lots more nice choices than cocobolo. Just ordered set number 5.

BTW Canik 100 is an alloy frame copy of CZ compact with safety. Or call it a PCR with a safety. Nice gun.

Good point, the rubber grips do have a tendency to grab on clothing which is no good on a carry weapon.

Awesome website Larryflew! Now I feel like ditching my rubber grips for wood grips from Marshal Grips. Way more wood selection and very reasonable prices! I'm assuming you'd just order 75 compact grips for a P-01?

Yes, thanks for the Marshal grips suggestion, I wish I'd known about them when I was ordering grips for my 75B two weeks ago.

Awesome forum and much appreciate the feedback!

No rules against owning extra grips :)

I have the P-01, which I carry and my daughter has the compact. Rails are great, if you're going to use them--otherwise there's not much difference.

I still have the factory grips on mine. I haven't noticed any problems with binding. YMMV.
