Recoil Springs?
« on: January 20, 2012, 10:44:44 PM »
I'm wanting to upgrade to a 15 or 16 lb recoil spring.  Does the CZ97 use the same springs as CZ75s?

TIA

Yes, they use full sized 75 springs. I run an 18lb spring in mine and it runs all ammo reliably and doesnt send my brass into orbit.

Why doesn't CZ just put those heavier springs in at the factory?

I also had a question on these recoil springs too.  The wolfe 16 pd spring is considerably longer than the original and it seems to really wad up in there when you put it in.  Should it be trimmed to the same length as the stock one?

You shouldnt have to cut the 97 spring. It will take a set and get shorter with use. I have had to cut springs for 75B 9mm's, but not 97's.

Who makes the 18lb spring you are using? Any modifications you had to do on it, or did you just install and go?

I've used the 16# springs that Angus sells.  I installed one in a CZ-97 w/o problem and one in a CZ-75.  The spring in the CZ-75  seems very long - to the point where it is hard to install the slide on the frame after cleaning.  But, I left the spring at its original length and it functions just fine.

I will give you the results ASAP once I return from the range... Here is the thing ~ my Wolf 16# spring was just to to tight in my Stainless 75B.  However my CZ 75 SA Target by The CZ Custom Shop has a spring in it that looks exactly the same as the Wolf  in size, color, & LENGTH (I didn't smell or taste it this time). So I swaped it for the stock 14# spring in my 75B.  Strangely enough it fits pefect; without no problems in chambering.  Perhaps because the CZ 75 SA Target spring had time to 'set'... which allowed for some reduction in tension.  YES - your right if you guessed that the Wolf 16# spring fits perfect in the CZ 75 SA Target.
I won't know the actual results to I get to send some brass down range... neither are my carry pistols ~ for now I leave that to a RAMI BD...  My hopes are reduced recoil on DPX 9mm Luger +P, 115gr and Winchester Ranger 124 gr 9mm NATO ball ammo...   P.S. Both spring fits were so nice that I was able to smoothly insert a Buffer Technologies recoil buffer...  moral to the story 400 rounds going down range to see if looks and feels provide a positive result ~ ASAP!!!

I use the 15# spring from CZ Custom in my SP01 and my 75B in .40. Recoil is fairly light, and shells normally fall 5-8 ft away. From what I have read, your ejected brass location and the type of ammo you shoot has a lot to do with recoil spring choice. I use S & B 9mm 115g and Blazer Brass 165g in the .40, and both are good for my set up. I was using the factory spring in my 97BD (it's a normal spring!, not like that flat wound thing that comes in the 75's), but swapped it out for a recoil reducer. It definetly tighed up my group at 15 yards.
