CZ Comp hammer on an SP01, is it legal for IDPA?
« on: February 08, 2012, 03:12:27 PM »
Wondering if a CZ competition hammer is an allowable modification for a regular SP01 in SSP or ESP?
According to the rules in IDPA...SSP...."4. Internal action work may be used to enhance trigger pull as long as safety is maintained (no visible external modifications allowed)"

The bold is whats in question as the hammer would be obviously different from stock. However since it is stock on a 75 Shadow, I wasn't sure if that excludes it?

It appears that ESP doesn't have the same stipulation.

It is allowed. It is a factory part therefore it is legal. A good resource is www.idpaforum.com. I run the same thing in my SP-01.

As stated already, the answer is "yes, 100% legal".

IMHO, you owe it to yourself to install  the comp hammer, it's probably the best $70 you'll ever spend and easier to install than you may think. Add a 15lb hammer-spring and reduced-power firing pin spring and it'll set off anything and be totally amazing... Though, drop another $20 for an extended firing-pin and you can go down to a 13lb hammer-spring, still with 100% reliability, just with a noticeably even better hard-to-believe-it's-that-good DA pull too.

You run an Sp-01 in IDPA?  ESP right as the SP-01 is over weight for SSP.
I have a 75 Shadow and it just makes weight for SSP.
If at first you do succeed - try to hide your astonishment.

No, it is under weight. It is a tactical model(decocker) so I can only use it for SSP. Per the rules if your pistol has a metal dustcover / full length rail it has to make weight in SSP off before you can shoot it in ESP. Stupid rule I know, I am working on getting it changed.
