How Safe??
« on: May 27, 2002, 07:17:45 AM »
Hi to every one,

Did any one have encountered that a loaded CZ100 accidentaly fired due from dropping? Is the safety firing pin reliable in this cases? Coz I heard some negative comments on this gun regarding this case. I would like to know 1st hand info from CZ100 owners.

Regards,

Ian

Hi,

Quite the opposite.
The CZ100 is probably one of the "safest" pistols currently available on the market.
Glocks have to rely on 3 safety's and are always semi-cocked,
i.e. greater risk of the gun going off if dropped with a round in the chamber.

CZ100's on the other hand are true DAO's, and are only cocked each time the trigger is pulled.
Before purchasing my 100, this point was a key point in my decision and this lead me to choose the 100 over a glock due to the fact that I can carry a round in the chamber and should I accidentaly drop it, which can easily happen!!, there is no possibility of the CZ100 accidentaly discharging.

It's about time that people stop comparing glocks to Cz100's.

They may look similar, but are two entirely different pistols in their own right.

If you want revolver reliability and simplicity in pistol form, buy a CZ100.

If you want a slightly quicker trigger pull, and if you want to run the risk of accidentaly shooting someone if you drop your gun then buy a glock.

Trigger pull should not be an issue on the CZ as it is DAO i.e. same principle as a revolver.
No need for safeties and no chance of "hairpin" trigger accidentaly going off.

Hope this helps.
Cheers.

cz100southafrica, I totally agree with you. The CZ100 is one of the safest handguns made.

If you look inside the pistol and try to push the firing pin to the percussion position the only way to do that is pushing   a piece down, that piece is only pushed when the trigger is totally pulled.

Suppose that fails, the firing pin has not enough mass ( is too light) that in a drop accumulates the necessary energy to percussion a bullet.

And the CZ 100  has not an exposed firing pin ( as most of the pistols) that can be hit against a floor during  a drop.

I am not an arm expert but this things are very easy to check.

Sincerely

Matias

I've had the pleasure of my cz100 40. for about 5 months now.  After putting a ton of rounds through her, and breaking the gun down a few hundred times I personally feel safer carrying a fully loaded cz, then my other SA/DA guns.  Like Czhead said the gun is not actually ready to fire until the trigger is pulled back.  Once you get a chance to break down your gun you'll notice that there's a firing pin safety that makes it impossible (be careful there) for the round to be fired.  I fully believe you could pound the back of the gun w/a hammer and it would not fire.

Another thing I've actually gotten attached to is the long trigger pull.  It makes me feel good to know that when I go to grab my piece its not going to go off before I tell it to.  I also think the long DAO trigger pull has improved my accuracy w/my other SA/DA.

Finally, the most important thing, I have not had one misfire since day one.  I've put every kind of round I have available into it, and have had no problems at all.  One thing I must say is that I do clean my gun after every 1 or 2 outings.  I suggest this to everyone, it gets you more aquainted with the weapon and it keeps the gun looking bleep good.  And the CZ100 is a bleep good looking pistol.  I still get compliments from people I shoot with every week or two.

Agree with all of the above, I have drop my loaded CZ but no slug came out of the barrel. It won't fire unless you full the trigger.

Given the current social, legal, and political climate in the US (at least before 9/11), I think the better question would be: would the BATF approve importation of a foreign semi-auto that was not 100% idiot proof?

For example, the firing pin blocks are almost completely redundant in pistols that have a half-cock safety.  If someone can tell me how a semi-auto with an internal lock is any way inherently safer than an unloaded semi-auto (in practice, not some hypothetical scenario where little Billy just happens to bring a loaded mag to the house), I will give you my first FEG internet award...

The CZ-100 is probably more comparable to a SIGMA.
thats what i thought of when i first dry fired my 100.

Oddly, when you are out shooting the gun..it seems very much lighter triger pull, ja?

I can't explain this..like the gun knows its going to get to play. The NGA SENTRY is a joy to shoot in the light 100
and i hope to shoot more of it.
