I ordered from cz custom on Wednesday; fedex tracking shows delivery for tomorrow!
I'm new to guns so I'm hoping there's a manual in the box that will clue me in on things that are second nature to most of you folks.
Is there anything special I have to do or is the gun good to go out of the box? Clean, oil, etc, ??
I'll take any help or knowledge that you all have to offer!
John K., Welcome to the forum and congratulations. Your getting a good shooter.
Since your new to guns, my recommendations are to read the manual that comes with your pistol, and familiarize yourself with the action and field strip procedures.
Do not have any ammo in the area, just the pistol. Pull the trigger both DA and SA to get the feel. Try the safety with the pistol cocked. Insert a magazine (NO AMMO) and rack the slide to cock the hammer. The slide will stay back because of the empty mag. Use the slide release and try the SA trigger. Push the mag release and the mag should drop to the floor. Follow the field strip instructions for removing the slide, barrel and recoil spring. Reassemble it. In other words, exercise it to get familiar with the controls and the feel. Do it all again.
The last NIB I've seen was my son's, and it came pretty clean. Look for any signs of any gooey lube and if you notice anything not clean and free moving clean it up with some Hoppe's #9 or similar. I would put a drop or two of any good "oil" on the slide rails, trigger spring area and on the barrel while its field stripped. This will get you going for a start. There are posts here you can find that go into details on cleaning and lubing as every shooter has their own preferrences.
Remember "ALWAYS" treat it like a loaded gun ready to fire. If it's 9mm, Wal-Marts Winchester white Box or Federal 115gr FMJ is good to break-in the gun. After several hundred rds it will be noticeably smoother. It's like a new car, it does improve as the parts seat.
You're going to enjoy this pistol. Let us know if you have any questions and tell us how your first shoot goes. Pictures are preferred!
