Learned a valuable lesson about the CZ 85
« on: July 03, 2012, 10:28:23 PM »
When you field strip the CZ 85, if you decide to remove the right side slide release (which you don't need to to field strip the gun, just the left side) it is going to be really difficult to get it back in because of a mean spring that won't get out of your way.  I managed to get around it, but it took some effort and ingenuity...seriously though, if I ever end up doing that again for some reason, is there a trick to getting it back in?

after breaking things by tinkering, ive learned, ....."if it aint broke, dont fix it".

and i do that with my guns too.  YMMV.

iirc, i removed the Right SR on my 85, but didnt have an issue reinstalling it, or if i did, it wasnt going to be an issue again.  again, YMMV.

The trick is to remove the slide stop spring which you should have done in order to remove the RH lever. Removing the lever by rotating it until the spring is out of the groove stresses the spring and will lead to premature latch back.

There is quite a bit of discussion about this here: http://www.czfirearms.us/index.php?topic=35932.0

That is good information.  Somebody should 'sticky' the thread you linked to.  I would have convinced me I didn't need to remove the rhs slide release.  How hard is it typically to drive out that pin?

The pin is a slip fit in the hole. There is a groove around the middle that the SS spring sets in. The pin secures the spring while the spring secures the pin.

Using a small flat blade screwdriver depress the end of spring and push the pin out. (The spring is under the pin.) The pin can be pushed through or you can use a "L" shaped tool (A straightened out paper clip with a short bend on one end) to push it from the inside. I use the paper clip method as it is easier to keep tabs on the pin. Be careful not to loose it as it is very small (short). Reverse the procedure to re install. After you have done it a couple of times you will find its "a piece of cake"
