New cz-75 compact - questions from a newbie :eek
« on: April 30, 2002, 09:26:31 PM »
OK. I could not resist the cz-75 compact that I saw even though I already have and love a cz-75B, cz - 52 (yes), and (wwife's) cz-83.
Even though it cost more than any of it's previous cousins, I could not resist it. SO.
Some questions. First time out at the range it performed worse than any of my other cz's. Is that because it's new? I hope so. I only put about 300 rounds through it and experience with Makarovs taught me that it takes about 500 before a new gun begins to settle down. I ordered Wolff springs, an 18# recoil and three 5% for the mags. Hope this helps. Anyone out there had this experience? Do these guns improve with use? I did get better results with the two mags of Speer gold dot +P that I put through (that's my preferred carry round) at the end of my session, before that I was shooting S&B and American Eagle 115gr.
It is a pretty pistol, shiney blue (my 75B is a poly coated, Turk contract pistol, and very accurate and reliable). I need to find the right holster for carry. I like the heavy frame of the 75 compact netter than the alloy of the PCR. Maybe it just takes getting used to ergonomically.?

When you say that it performed "worse", what do you mean? Feeding problems? Accuracy problems? I experienced some minor feeding problems on my PCR the first few hundred rounds. I also started to shoot the PCR much better over time as I got used to it's trigger (and the trigger broke in some more).

Steve -- Thanks for the reply, yes, some minor feeding problems. Accuracy was disappointing, though not tragically. I may just need to get used to this baby. The full sized 75B shot like a dream right out of the box, but ... wait a minute.... I had a gunsmith re-do the trigger first. Maybe this compact will smooth out in time. I hope so as it feels right nice in the hand.

My compact gave me fits the first 1000rnds.  But it was a really strange problem...I would be FTF..the slide would stop just before stripping the next round off of the mag to chamber it.  JUST STOP!  I polished my feed ramp and throated my chamber slightly.  21# Wolff recoil spring, very hard to hand cycle...Wolff mag springs #10%, smoothed and polished the frame/slide rails....everything I could think of and
nothing helped.  AAHH HAA!  My locking lugs on the barrel had a burr on the front corner along the radius.  Most barrels are chamfered right there, so they dont catch on the slide grooves.  Mine wasnt and after so long it would burr enough to cause "friction" between the slide and barrel.  I carefully filed the burr off and chamfered the lug and chamber corner.
NO MORE PROBLEM!  CZUSA said it was a problem they have never heard of...but it was the problem.  My guess is QC just let one get by them or something.  I know its not a common problem for Compacts and PCR's or I would have heard about it here.  You may want to check it out...the front top corner of the lug and right behing it on the chamber should be smooth and flat...nothing raised up...especially on the front corner.  Good luck and enjoy your gun...mine was great after proper diagnosis and corrective surgery.
Accuracy was hindered a little by this situation also...but once I got it working as should be...it was a shooter.
My gun wasnt really ammo dependent, but was far more accurate with HOT LOADS...defensive rounds.
Shoot well

Thanks, I will check the lugs carefully.

Yes , way better with hot loads! My best targets were with Speer gold dot +P. Also I noticed that 124gr fmj shot better than 115gr fmj. No problem, it's a carry gun, so it's loaded with the Speer gold dot +P anyway. I just like to shoot affordable fmj at the range.
