accurate rounds for new PCR
« on: April 23, 2002, 09:30:53 AM »
This is my first post to this board.  I am new to shooting pistols.  My 10 day wait is over and I will be at the range with my brand new PCR later today.  I plan to use middle of the road ammo for a break in period but I would like to know what brand and type of rounds are the most accurate in a PCR.  Thanks.

Congratulations on the new PCR.

I've tried 6 different brands of 115 grain ammo in mine. It shoots them all with no problem, and the accuracy seems about the same no matter what the brand.

Each gun is going to be different, you will just have to try a box of each to find your guns "pet" load. I know it's going to be hard having to shoot your new gun so much...if you want you can send it to me, along with every type of ammo out and I'll check it for you:)

I've had my best luck with 115 and 124 grain ammo in 9mm's.

Have fun,
Jeff C.

Jeff,
thanks for the feedback.  I bought a couple of boxes of Speer Lawman rounds on sale at Big5 for 9.99.  I had 10 missloads out of 100 shots.  The spent round seemed to eject fine but the new round would jam and the slide wouldn't shut all of the way.  I hope it was the ammo or just the gun breaking in.  BTW, the jams happened with both magazines.

I will try again Saturday with several types of ammo.  You recommend 115 grain for target practice?

Welcome to the world of CZs. I hope that your nagging problems will not continue to bother you, it is probably a breaking in thing. If you can find some S&B 115 gr ammo, try that. This is what CZ uses to test the function and accuracy of their firearms.

I suspect that it may be a new shooter rather than the PCR or ammo. I encountered a similar problem at first, but then settled down and have had nothing since but success.

Enjoy your PCR.

mbritt...

After you install the bullets into the magazine, tap the magazine against the back edge. Make sure the bullets "seat" themselves in alignment. It may help.

Also make sure you have a solid grip on the gun. Not a "death grip" but a firm grasp. Are you shooting one handed? It almost sounds like you could be "limp wristing." The gun could be jumping back causing the slide to not be able to function properly?

If you can, see if someone at the range can fire the gun for you...preferably someone that has some experience. Or just get some advise from someone on your grip.

"I" prefer the 115 and 124 grain bullets, others may differ. I have found the most variety is usually in 115 grain.

Any other questions feel free to e-mail.

Good luck,
Jeff C.

Thanks for all the help.  I went to the range today with 200 rounds of Winchester White box target 9mm.  My pistol seemed to like it better.  I only had 2 misfeeds out of 200 shots.  I also made an effort to grip a little tighter.  I am guessing that my feed problem is a combination of ammo, grip and breaking in period.  A few hundred more rounds and we both should have the bugs worked out.

mbritt,
I had virtually the same problems with my new PCR that you did with yours; i.e., several failures to feed, but no failures to eject. This happened with different magazines, different brands of ammo, and different shooters. I ended up replacing the factory recoil spring, which seemed a bit undersprung, with an 18 lb. Wolff spring. Have had no problems since then.
