I seldom shoot Trap and have only shot one round with a Huglu (DeHaan rather than a CZ), but I have shot plenty of Skeet and Sporting Clays with CZs.  Shot 100 rounds of SC Thursday with a CZ.

What model did he buy?  The CZ/Huglu O/U guns are generally very good guns for light to moderate clayshooting.  At less than 10,000 rounds per year it will last a long time.  If he gets serious about the claysports, and starts burning 20,000 rounds or more per year, then he'll be looking to upgrade, but then at 20,000+ rounds per year at Trap he'll be spending a minimum of $6,000 per year on shells and clays so he will be looking for a fancy new Trap gun anyway.

The CZ/Huglu O/U's generally work well for skeet/SC's and can be used for trap, but you'll have to adjust accordingly in trap to account for the rising targets.  I used a Redhead with 28" barrels for my first year of sporting games and shot quite a bit of trap with it.

You'll probably want to purchase a decent recoil pad for it as well, as the stock ones on the Redhead are terrible and the gun will generally rattle your head otherwise.  I can't explain it, but my CZ Evolution (.22lr) has a much nicer recoil pad than my CZ Redhead in 12 gauge.  If you're in the field and only shooting periodically, that's fine, but if you run up an afternoon of hundreds of clays, you will be longing for a softer-shooting gun.

Generally, if looking for a dedicated entry-level trap gun (and not something that can play all the sporting games), I'd really look into a BT-99.  They're purpose-built trap guns and you really get a lot of gun for the money, especially if you find one slightly used.

Glad to hear he's decided on a gun. :)  I find trap shooting to be pretty relaxing... until I start missing clays.  >:(  It's a great time though and, in my experience, some of the nicest folks you'll meet are out on the trap field.
