"Out of all the movie theaters within 20 minutes of his [James E. Holmes] apartment showing the new Batman movie that night, it was the only one where guns were banned. In Colorado, individuals with permits can carry concealed handgun in most malls, stores, movie theaters, and restaurants. But private businesses can determine whether permit holders can carry guns on their private property. Most movie theaters allow permit holders carrying guns. But the Cinemark movie theater was the only one with a sign posted at the theater?s entrance."

Holmes is crazy and smart. He planned everything to the last detail, otherwise his plans would have been foiled by a handgun.

I carried concealed when I saw 2016 a couple of weeks ago.  I didn't see a sign, but didn't look for one, either.

After the Aurora shooting I've decided to ignore any such signs.  The worst that can happen is you get asked to leave.  If properly concealed that is not likely to happen.  In WA there are few places one cannot carry -- federal buildings, court houses, jails, mental institutions, and any establishment that makes more than 50% of its revenue through the sale and consumption of adult beverages.

It will be interesting to see if anyone sues the theater for their dangerous policy.  On the other hand, if I wanted to prohibit antone entering my property from carrying a gun, I think I should have that right.  But, people should be smart enough to stay away from any establishment that opts to be a gun-free zone, as such zones are crime magnets.

You've got a good point here. Though in this particular case, those movie go'ers (& others in that demographic) are/were of the age/awareness that guns are bad, harmful things and today, they are probably walking around in some mob thinking Occupy Wall Street is the greatest thing since sliced bread!

+1 to skipper. Couldn't agree more (sadly enough)

I think it's Texas State that is housing CCP holders in segregated Dorms
Making it public knowledge which Dorms that is
That?s like putting up a sign....?Bobber and Rapists....Try next door?
I'm a great believer; If it?s concealed well enough, no harm, no foul
The signs, when entering a Gun Show always says; ?Check your Guns....No loaded Firearms?....Yeah, right !
I carry in the Bank, the Post Office, anywhere there?s no Metal Detectors
If I find a Metal Detector at the door, I go out and lock the Gun (and other weapons) in the Safe in the Truck and either never visit there again, or I leave the Weapons at home if I HAVE to go there
So tell me again how Trump was worse then the 8 years before .... AND what's coming after HIM !

I hate to sound cruel, but anyone adopting the "guns are evil" philosophy is bucking for a Darwin Award.  To tell you the truth, I would have likely been apathetic about an syablishment's "No guns allowed" policy and sheepishly complied, but this shooting was a wake-up call.

I somehow found that the state university my daughter attends has a policy of no guns on campus (except for police).  I thought about it and figured I would ignore the policy -- all they could do is insist I leave and not return unless I was unarmed.  My daughter, however, as a student could, I assume, risk being expelled if caught violating the policy.  Given that she's one of those bucking for a Darwin Award, she doesn't have to worry about expulsion for CC on campus.

I think there were several military families in that theatrr.  I doubt they were anti-gun; they likely never gave thought to the fact that the theater was a crime magnet.

Come to think about it, a valuable community service would be to publish a list of all establishments who opt to adopt a no-guns policy.  Not so pro-guns can boycott them; rather, so that intelligent people can avoid such establishments because they are inherently dangerous.

We need to replace the ?Neighborhood Watch? Signs with a new Sign that reads;
?Every Household in this Neighborhood has at least two Guns....Try down the street a few blocks !?

Good plan, and make those signs shaped like a CZ or Dan Wesson. Whoa, sounds like a new business plan.

Will be interesting to see if the crime rate differs among dorms.

I assume you are aware that entering a federal building (e.g., a post office) is a federal crime.  While the odds of being caught are remote, I assume the consequences would be harsh.  I avoid the post office, because life is too short to waste it standing in long, slow moving lines, although watching how slow a postal worker can move does help the time pass.

I have decided not to carry when visiting a doc.  My family practitioner is a rabid liberal (as most folks in western WA are), and due to a flawed Ivy League med school study that concluded the presence of a gun in a home is unhealthy, I figure there is no gain for me to have the subject brought up in the event I'm asked to drop my pants, turn my head, and cough.

One thing you guys are not taking into account. The City of Aurora does not allow concealed carry within it's borders. So no matter what a business decides to post it's illegal there.

Further. Some states, Texas is one, no firearms signs written to a specific set of verbiage carry force of law and can get you arrested if caught.

Interesting.  In WA, I don't think municipalities are allowed to trump state law, just like states are not allowed to trump federal law.

That makes sense.  I think the relevant crime of carrying a on property where the property owner doesn't want you carrying guns is trespass.  So, ignoring a properly worded and posted no-trespass sign sounds like grounds for arrest.  However, I've never seen a "no-guns allowed" sign in WA, or anywhere else that I can recall.  Widespread concealed carry is somewhat of a new phenomenon, but WA has had a shall-issue law longer than any other state.

Actually, my kidneys have been dispensing kidney stones like a gumball machine dispenses gumballs.  I've spit out three pieces of gravel so far this year, ranging anywhere from 5mm to 8mm caliber.  However, the muzzle velocity and range are nothing to boast about.  I know -- way too much information.

Hmmm... maybe getting some keyholing from an insufficient twist rate? But a higher TR would probably be more painful. :o
