CZ 75 Semi-Compact
« on: September 26, 2012, 07:11:39 AM »
I have read a few posts on here expounding on the virtues of the CZ 75 Semi-Compact.  I am given to understand that they are rare.  Well, I ran across one currently up for auction of GB.  Good luck in your quest.

I have to admit that I do not understand the allure of this particular configuration.  A compact is for concealment.  You sacrifice barrel length and sight radius in order to be able to conceal.  The part of the handgun that prints is always the grip.  By retaining the full size grip but going to a shorter barrel it would seem that you are not gaining anything.  If you are happy concealing with a full size grip, why would you want a shorter barrel and sight radius.  I am perplexed.

I apparently have the collector gene as well.  Unfortunately, I do not have a collector's bank account.  I would love to have a semi-compact.  It would be similar to the 40B.  A gun I would love to shoot but whose niche is already filled by a somewhat better model.

Bingo!  Perhaps this explains why the Compact was made from 1993 thru 2012, while the Semi-Compact was made only in 1994.

youre thinking too logically.  everyone wants small, big bore, and high cap with the footprint of a walther TPH.

i got one cuz they are unique and dont make them anymore.  if you have the $$ and want to fill a niche, then its a start.  what i like about CZ is that it looks to me as if they werent afriad to TRY something.  whereas alot of mfg and companies are followers and wait for others to make the first move then, come and copy.

In the right climate and clothing you could carry almost anything. Here in Florida it can be very uncomfortable if outside and limits what you can conceal. A good reason to own a variety of pistols.

Hey, I'm all for collecting.  If I had the money I would have at least one of each gun that CZ makes or has ever made.  But I get the sense that some people prefer these as carry guns.  I am not knocking anyone's personal choice, I just don't understand what quality about this setup seems preferable to them.

OK, now hear from someone that carried a Semi-Compact daily
There are so many different methods of carry available, that I can carry a Semi-Compact with a full 26 Round Magazine or a CTS-LS Longslide and not print
The Semi-Compact gives better recoil control over a pure Compact because of the full sized Grip
Also, I like being able to put a full sized or Longslide Upper on my Frame(s) and have a nice Range Gun too
Anyone can have a "Semi-Compact" by simply putting a Compact Upper on your Full sized Lower

Here is my DTD carry; A Witness Semi-Compact in 10mm:

Here?s the same Lower with my 10mm Longslide:

And my CZ75 Semi-Compact DuoTone in 9mm that I swap carrying with the Witness:

Den,
Nice CZ semi compact. Did it came with upswept Beavertail?
The Pistol as it sits now is a compilation of three different Pistols I put together
The Upper is from my original Semi-Compact, which was all Poycoated with a standard flat CZ75 Beavertail (which I hate)
The Lower is from a Matte Stainless, that I swapped a few Controls (from a B-SA), and a Polycoated Hammer and Trigger
So tell me again how Trump was worse then the 8 years before .... AND what's coming after HIM !

You can get a nice poster of oodles of CZ pistols for $5:  http://shop.cz-usa.com/P-19705/Cz-Pistol-Poster.aspx.  Trouble is, it would almost certainly stoke the urge to collect more than images.

Den,

No offense, but sounds like you are makng BA's point.

"There are so many different methods of carry available, that I can carrya Semi-Compact with a full 26 Round Magazine or a CTS-LS Longslide and not print."

Presumably, one can find a way to carry a full-size 75 B without printing, too.

"The Semi-Compact gives better recoil control over a pure Compact because of the full sized Grip."

A 75 B gives even better recoil control because of its grip and weight.

"Also, I like being able to put a full sized or Longslide Upper on my Frame(s) and have a nice Range Gun too."

With a 75 B one has a nice range gun as is.

Now, saying that the Semi-Compact is unique and aesthetically appealling -- that's an argument that is not easy to dismiss.

"Anyone can have a "Semi-Compact" by simply putting a Compact Upper on your Full sized Lower."

Darn it, you have me thinking how a satin nickel 75 B would allow me to mix and match with my 75 C.

Very true
I carry in a few different rigs
My horizontal Shoulder Rig allows me to carry a Compact length with whatever Mag I desire
If I were to go with a Vertical Rig, then Barrel Length wouldn?t matter at all with a Compact Lower
With my Deep Conceal, ?Crotch Shot? Holster, the Semi runs real well there too
I can carry just about anything in the small of my back
But on my hip, that changes everything again

"The Semi-Compact gives better recoil control over a pure Compact because of the full sized Grip."

A 75 B gives even better recoil control because of its grip and weight.
The Semi-Compact isn't that much lighter than a Full Sized, because of it's all steel and its full Hicap Mag

"Also, I like being able to put a full sized or Longslide Upper on my Frame(s) and have a nice Range Gun too."

With a 75 B one has a nice range gun as is.
True;
But with the one Lower and the two (or three) Upper, I have the choice but with only one Trigger Pull to learn

Now, saying that the Semi-Compact is unique and aesthetically appealling -- that's an argument that is not easy to dismiss.
True statement

"Anyone can have a "Semi-Compact" by simply putting a Compact Upper on your Full sized Lower."

Kind of a cool idea...HUH ?
