What would be the best sights for the CZ52?
« on: July 27, 2006, 09:15:25 PM »
I am going to mill out dovetails in several CZ52's for new sights. I have a hard time seeing with the ones that are on there now. I was thinking of adjustable ones because of all the different ammo that is out there. Maybe Browning style meprolites? Anyone else try different sight in theirs?

I'm really looking forward to an answer here.  It's my number one complaint with all my 52's...crappy sights (and pretty old eyes!!)

When I had my 52, I got these glow in the dark stickers. I don't remember which online store they were from, but they were originally for a watch company. It consisted of a few little circles (for the rear sight), and then some straight strips. You put some crazy glue (which even came with a bottle) on the back, attach them to the gun, and then let them dry. You could then go in with an exacto knife and do any trimming that you want (not necessary on the dots, but it made the strip flush with the front sight). Then, after it was trimmed, put more crazy glue on top to seal it. It was cheap, and actually worked really well.

I actually have a phosphorus sight paint kit to make them glow in the dark and that is what is on them now and I even hogged out the rear sight notch to let more light in but they still suck. I think I am going to have it milled out for the dovetails and put a set of BO Mars that I have lying around in it. Or maybe some Meprolites. If I can get a few more people in on it maybe he will mill them a little cheaper or give some sort of discount.

Here's a CZ 52 picture that I collected some time ago.  I can't remember where it came from, but it shows a CZ 52 with a Novak low mount rear sight and a fiber optic front.

Thanks! That is exactly what I am wanting to do. I have several customers that are in the same boat as I am in. Now it is just seeing who will pay to have it done. Anyone know  someone that will mill the slides for less than $55 a slide? I think a $70 upgrade (milling + a set of sights) isn't to much to spend on a gun I like to shoot and ammo is still cheaper than 9MM.

What does everyone think? If I did a few of the guns this way, do you think they would sell at gunshows?

I don't know how they'd sell at a gunshow, but I'd pay that much (or more!!) to have it done to at least 2 of my 3 CZ 52's!!

Makarov.com has or at least had Novack low profile's listed but IIRC, they were $70.00 for the pair.

Yep there's the problem...the sights $70...installation $70...front sight who knows.  You now have the cost of the pistol in the sights alone.  The trigger still probably needs work and then fixin' up a slide release...it goes on and on.

The end result is an outstanding pistol that you'll never ever get your money out of.

I guess I'm luckier than most as I don't see a need for adjustible sights on my shooter CZ52.   And as far as visibility, the range master gave me a great idea.   He suggested using your wife's pink nail polish.   It's easy to outline the front and rear sights with the tiny brush and it's easy to remove if you want it back to original.   You guessed it! Nail polish remover removes the pink without damaging the pistola.    Btw, S&B is the only ammo is use and it shoots POA for me.   Good luck and happy shooting.

I like the nail polish idea.  A few years ago I saw young ladies with fluorescent nail polish at a night club.  I'll have to check the cosmetics section for that stuff.

I like to shoot a lot! Having the option to shoot any ammo with the adjustable sights ( or even just better sights) is real appealing to me. The S&B ammo is great but can get expensive to shoot 1000's of rounds of and for us people who don't have the means or time to reload it can get expensive. The change of sights can pay for itself in being able to shoot any of the surplus ammo that comes along. By the way, who would want to sell their personal CZ anyway? They are just way to cool! I will pay extra to have something different and the coolest one at the range. My wife says it's a guy thing.

I am working on a deal now, If  can get a few people to go along, I can get  both dovetails milled by a top notch gunsmith for $45. Then I can buy any sights you want wholesale or find surplus sights to put in. I am looking to put a fiber optic up front (I like them on all .45's) and a low profile or adjustable in the rear.

I have an 01FFL and if anybody is interested let me know. I can also hand pick anything Aim sells if you need another CZ to have as a back up or their ammo.

I have two CZ-52s that I plan to change the sights on, among other things.  All my gun money has been spent buying guns as they are available, and I've set my CZ-52 project guns aside until I can afford accessories.  It may be a month or two before I would have the funds available to spend on dovetail jobs for my CZ-52s, but it is something I eventually plan to do.  Keep us posted!

Not a problem. I am sending some off in 2 weeks and haggling the prices on sights now.

Like above, I'd sure like to keep posted as well.  If I could get some decent sights on my 52's I'd be one happy cowboy!!
