What is the diameter of the Kadet Barrel Roll pin?
« on: November 18, 2012, 11:06:59 PM »
Bagged my gun after some league shooting with the Kadet Kit on SP-01 Tactical. Two days later pulled it out to clean it and found the barrel had walked backwards and it looked as though the roll pin that holds the barrel in place had fallen out. Further investigation found the roll pin to have broken into three pieces, with the center piece still in the barrel lug.

I called CZUSA, and they are sending out a new pin (they told me I'll need to cut it to length), and that it would be here for this Monday's league night, but it hasn't arrived yet. So, I have been googling the crap out of this, and found a post where the poster had picked up an 1/8" pin at home depot, and used that. Well, I picked a couple up, and they are too big. I'm thinking the original pin is probably metric, and I will try to find one in the morning. It would be great if I knew what the diameter of that pin is supposed to be.

Got clues?

The rollpin is metric, 3mm X 12mm long. You may be able to find one at your local hardware store or an auto parts store.

You may also find this post regarding broken pins of interest. http://www.czfirearms.us/index.php?topic=39826.msg221907#msg221907

Joe, thank you. I was able to find some 3x12mm roll pins (stainless) just down the road. Squeezed one end down to start and punched it the rest of the way. That stainless doesn't want to work with ColdBlue!

Anyhooooo, just as I put the last tool away from my repair, the FedEx guy drops off the two pins from CZUSA in an envelope clearly marked Saturday Delivery (today's Monday). The pins CZ shipped need to be cut down in length, and the ends are already tapered enough to start them (I think). They may be a bit heavier than the stainless pins I bought, not sure.

The KK has about 2.5 - 3 k rounds through it, mostly Mini Mags (after leading up the barrel pretty bad with about 200-400 rounds of Remington (mostly Thunderbolt). I'm taking the KK to my league shooting tonight, and when it's all over I expect to have put another 200-300 rounds through it before I leave the range. It'll be interesting to see if the pin walks out or breaks. Now that I'm aware of this issue, I'll keep tabs on how these pins fair in the future. I had read your link before I posted here, and next week I'll take the KK to a friend's place.... he's got the proper micrometers and feeler gauges available for me to check the spacing at the front of the slide.

Thanks again for the reply on the size.

Larry, please post your findings after you get the measurements. I recently purchased a Kadet 2 kit that will need attention before the round count gets very high.

Don't have measurements yet, however shooting the KK last night with new pin, I found the pin starting to "walk" out the right side at about 140 rounds. Knocked it back in and finished the league shooting.

I have to find a way to keep this pin in, and still allow for removal if and when it breaks again. My thoughts are staking or using Black Magic locktite.

Any thoughts?   :-\

One quick and dirty way would be to get a 15mm long pin and flare the ends just enough to hold it until you get a permanent fix. May not need all 15mm but that would be the next standard length.

To get some idea of how much error there is you might remove the pin then, making sure the sliding part, the bolt, is firmly against the slide. Now push the barrel back against the face of the breach, remembering that the extractor must ride up a bit in order to get there, and peak through the hole. That should give you some idea of how much shimming you will need a permanent solution.

Hope I have explained the "How To" well enough.
