Are the 75B 9mm and 40 slide and frame interchangable?
« on: November 25, 2012, 11:49:44 AM »
I have a 40 caliber CZ 75B and I would like to know if a 9mm 75B slide and barrel and guide rod and mags will fit and function on the 40 frame? I've been thinking about getting a 9mm and thought this might be another option. Thank you.

Actually, NO
There is a difference between the 9mm and the 40cal Ejectors within each Frame

The ejector is on the slide.

The ejector is on the slide.
Actually the extractor is on the slide, the ejector is on the sear cage.

In my experience the answer is a definite maybe.  The 40 barrel on my 75 uses a different lug design than the 40 barrel in my Tactical Sport which is the same as the lug on the 9mm Tactical Sport barrel I use in my SP01 slide with a compensator.  When I bought my 75b in 40, I expected to be able to swap all my uppers, the SP01 slide goes on, but the barrel lug is loose on the take down pin (like an eight on an inch play before the lugs unlock).  Conversely the 40 upper locks up almost too tight on the TS frame.  I don't think it's a completely incompatible design, but just manufacturing inconsistencies between models.   My particular guns are not close enough for me to shoot them with the uppers swapped.  Tanfoglios seem to be more consistent between models and the ones I've had have been much more swap friendly.

One more thing, if caliber swapping is something you're interested in Tanfolio is a much better platform than CZ.  CZ doesn't sell drop in conversion kits and if you can find the parts, they're generally expensive and need to be custom fit.  With the Tanfos, you just call EAA, tell them what you've got and what you want (caliber, slide length, finish and sights) and they'll send it to you (most of the time!).

I had a caliber swapping fetish at one point, but the novelty wore off, especially with the 22 conversions; it's hard to performance tune your pistol for one setup and have it work right with the other.

This is correct

True about the Tanfoglio / Witness being better for Caliber swapping
Alsp?..I'm not really versed in the differences between the CZ75B over the SP-01

I had an EAA Match in .45 caliber and I bought a .38 Super conversion kit but the grip was huge and uncomfortable. I even had a Hogue grip for a CZ fitted to it but nothing helped and I eventually sold it.

I typed a reply but it disappeared.  :o

There is no issue putting a complete 9mm upper on a .40 lower, or vise versa.  You may have to do some minor fitting, but it is exactly like putting the Kadet Kit on a CZ lower to make a .22.

CZ uses the same ejector housing for both .40 and 9mm. they are listed as 9mm ejector housing.
always best to double check as to position of the ejector where it strikes the case.

extractors are caliber specific. slide stops are listed for both calibers, however the .40 slidestop will work in the 9mm guns.

I have a 2011 75B in .40 and bought a complete 9mm upper from another forum member here and it works just fine.   I've also used the upper from my 9mm compact.  Have been using the 40 slide stop but not sure if I've tried it with 9 stop.

okay same topic different guns
p-01 and p-06?
It would make sense to have 1 lower for both and then swap top ends depending on what the customers wanted.

As long as you keep Safety uppers and lowers together and Decocker uppers and lowers together, you shouldn't have a problem.
