Hammer hangs on half-cock notch during slow trigger press
« on: March 02, 2013, 09:49:24 PM »
OK, wondering if I have a problem here.  Is it normal for a 75B's hammer to stop half way down if your giving it a very slow trigger press?

Took my new-to-me 75B to the range today for some slow fire.  3-4 times out of 10, when I'm pressing the trigger back slow slow slow, the hammer falls but catches on the "half cock notch" (sorry if I fall into 1911 speak, what else to call it?).  I'm trying to pull slow as trained in bullseye shooting.  Not trying to stop once I start the pull, though since my last name isn't Zinns I very well may.  But even still, why would the hammer stop halfway down?!  Continuing the pull is a little heavier, and then there she goes -- each time out of the black...

Thanks for your thoughts on this.

My Shadow would do that when hot, after 50-60 rounds. I asked the same question on this forum a year or so ago but never got any solution to the problem.  Now I just don't do it, that is I either let the gun cool off after a couple of mags, or don't use slow trigger pools.  Some parts must be slightly off spec in my gun to get this behavior when they heat up. If yours is doing it when cool, you should call CZ tech support and let them debug it. I would be interested to hear what you find out.

When this happened to my 75B,  if you release the trigger at that point, then pull it again, it would recock and drop normally.  If you make a smooth continuous pull it didn't do it.  A slow pull did intermittently drop the hammer to half-cock.

This, I was told, is due to hammer hook and/or sear wear by CGW/schmeky.  A new hammer and sear did fix the problem.

Because of this problem I put the CZ away for the last year.  Finally took it out again, with my faulty memory I figured it was just my imagination or that I was probably doing something wrong.

Nope.  It's still happening and all I'm doing is a slow smooth trigger press.  Any new ideas on this problem?  A new piece of info I can add, this does NOT happen when dry firing.  Only when there is a round in the chamber...

thanks,
Jab

try  this:  Take the slide off.  Make the very slow trigger pull with the hammer fully cocked.  If it drops to half cock,  reset the hammer again and make the the slow pull again,  but add a little upward pressure on the trigger bar.  If it fully drops,  the trigger bar spring could be out of the slot on one side OR the spring isn't centered below the slotted screw that holds it in place.  If the spring under the screw is off center on one side (OR Broken), that can cause the problem.  That screw that holds the mag-release and trigger bar spring is staked so it doesn't have to be overtightened against the two springs.

Just saw the other thread talking about a similar issue in DA mode. I'm having this issue in SA mode. I'm going to check the spring, thanks for the idea!

deleted bad info.
On my 75B,  I thought I remembered being ABLE to drop it to half-cock with a little hesitation at the critical position,  but just tried my Shadow and it WILL NOT let me hesitate and drop to half-cock.  My Shadow trigger is set pretty close to minimum slack anywhere. :-\

My SPO1 Shadow that I use for IPSC has recently started doing this (approx. 35K rounds) on a very slow SA pull, I replaced sear spring and trigger bar spring - this has solved the issue with my CZ. hope this helps anyone with this issue.
Greetings from Oz.

When I got this problem on a Tanfoglio Stock III, the sear was visually worn out. Changing the sear resolved the issue.

Thanks for posting OP!

Definitely a problem with the gun, but a good indication that the shooter isn't jerking the trigger!
Thanks also to all with experience in rssolving this issue; one I've never experienced personally, but glad to be aware.
