Need 7.62x25 Reload data

Hi guys.

I recently puchased a refurbished 7.62 CZ52 and can only find surplus military FMJ ammo- so I bought a die set and 85 grain JSP and 22/30 sabots to use with 22 caliber 45 grain JHPs.

I have no chronograph, and  both my reload manuals do not have any data for the 7.62.

Do any reloaders out there have any reload data or links to data hopefuly using bullseye/unique/2400 powders and lists expected muzzle velocities/energy?

I  hope to make a nice little hunting round with the 30 cal and a varmint round with the 22 JHP and shoot up the surplus military FMJ at the range where no worry about ricochet.    

Also purchased a laser sight to mount to the frame and use this at night when dogs or critters come in to kill my small livestock.  

I havent shot this gun yet but I think it will be very controllable- it must weigh 35 ounces and my .45 is only 38 ounces.

I will get back to you, because I am at work.  Lee's Modern Reloading has a few loads for 7.62x25, but they use Accurate Arms powders, IIRC.

Also how did the laser mounting go? Which one did you use? Been thinking about getting one myself but the ones the local gunshop has wont mount without alot of modifying to the unit of the weapon.

Thansk for the replies-  I just got the laser mounted and am going to sight it in today. I will give a report and attempt to upload a photograph.

I used a 10/22 scope base and chopped it short and D&T two 6-48 holes uinto the bottome of the frame. I took a halfround file and made a sharper radius on the base which had a larger radisu than the gun frame had. It wasnt perfect but it screwed doen tight and did not wobble. (We will see at the range if it works or not!)  

I installed a BSA laser sigth which was the cheapest that came with both 22 rail and weaver rail mount adapters.

I just wasnt comfortable with the lasers that mount to the trigger guard- I figured I would end up breaking those off- I have been hauling this around in my belt and or pockets to be ready for some stray dogs coming around attacking my small livestock.    If this works I will not need daylight to aim!

1st range trip fired 32 rounds, too blasted cold out there to stay any longer--

Bad news:

one round did not fired (cheap import stuff?), discovered brass was not reload-able (after collecting all my fired shells), one mag does not lock the slide open and laser almost slid off of mount, too bright to sight in laser.
 
Good news:

I could hit a pie plate at 15 yards (most of the time).  It will take a little getting used to the trigger pull- it feels normal but after it stacks up, it seems like it has to be pulled back forever before it breaks- but it is not real hard, just keeps going and going...

I inserted a set screw thought the mount into the base to lock it into place.  

Shooting about 5 more clips after dark showed it is holding secure.  I could hit a pie plate at 10 yards, 5 out of 8 shots.  

Realistically, I will probably have to put the laser on my 22 rifle to get any hits- I need about 30 to 50 yard shooting skill to be effective on the predators. BUT the laser would be perfect for close up home protection.

To reload this caliber you have to make some concessions: 1. cases
                  2. bullets

You must accept the LOSS of cases due to their achieving suborbital velocity UNLESS you install a 14# or higher recoil spring
or
Make yer own from hand fashioned .223 wincheste cases

BUY sierra .32 cal 90 gr jacketed bullets or CAST yer own at about a 25% loss in maximum velocity

I make my own cases, cast my own bullets and  get 1252 fps and no leading, get the same loudenboomermit spitzensparken effect that surplus ammo has, and dont worry 'bout corrosion 'cause all components are modern and non military

I have a large notebook of reloading data compiled over the years, much of which came from Makarov.com which I will eventually assemble to post here.

How do you transform the 223 case to a 7.72x25 case? Any tooling etc required?, or  will a 7.62 rezising die actually reform the 223 case? Please advise

Thanks for your help.  I may be able to get my hands on a few hundred once fired 223 cases.

I kand of hate buying 7.62 cases starline brass to reload when they fly off into orbit during ejection, but I want some expanding bullets to do more terminal damage and less overshooting concern (so I think anyway).

You can buy absolutley new brass for the 7.62x25 at www.starlinebrass.com. 1000 for $111.00. Hope this helps.

These loads use Accurate Powders #2, #5, #7, and #9.

I think these loads are VERY HOT!  If you choose to use this data, be sure to reduce the starting loads by 10% and work up carefully!

to make 762-25 from 223 first cut case off behind the neck of 223 (iuse tubing cutters) run it thru your full sizing die you'll get a long neck that must be trimmed to size. lee will make you a special trimmer for 15 and a bit of a wait. i'm having mine made to trim to .988 in make sure your full forming die is adjusted tight to the shell holder. lots of luck

6.2 gr unique cast bullet works great i'v found out that the pistol will chamber it if it fit in the mag.but thats only my pistol did a chamber casting on it and the spin test just to be sure.

When reloading for the cz52 which is  a better choice,

a 30cal 85 gr  or a 32cal 90 grain bullet.  the dia changes from .308 to .312   Will either work equally as well?  I have seen both suggested at usable.

Just finished testing 12 gr. of Hodgdon H110 with CCI magnum small pistol primer, star line brass and Speers 110 grain .308 hollow point.

Very nice load...pressure appears very slightly less than the Sellier & Bellot. factory round.

Superbly accurate.

Tested with new Federal (Korean made) ported extra length barrel from Makarov.com.....

Did you, or can you order ammo from Makarov.com?  They sell 7.62x25 mail order.  Also Natchez Shooters Supply carries S&B ammo.  

Unless that is, you prefer reloading.  I would if I could, but I have space limitations that make reloading untenable.
