« on: June 06, 2005, 04:39:38 AM »
My CZ52 has FOUR !

1) Decock
2) Safety ON
3) Low, fires
4) Bottom (lowest), also fires

Can anybody explain the difference between the three Firing positions?

Thanks

I don't think it should have more than one position of the safety that allows the weapon to fire.  Both of mine work this way. Three positions of the safety.

1) Decock - Safety lever is pushed up about 10 degrees - hammer decocks
2) Safe - Safety lever is horizontal and the red dot is covered - No fire
3) Fire - Safety lever is down 45 degrees and the red dot is exposed - Weapon fires

I can't move my safety past the 'fire' position because it strikes the left handgrip. Both the safe and fire position have detents that you can feel when moving the safety between safe and fire.

Sound like it might be time to open her up and see what's going on.

98 is right, there are only three positions, and one of them is temporary only.  They are:

Down = Fire.  The firing pin block remains engaged until the trigger is pressed.

Up to horizontal = Safe.  The trigger is blocked.

Press up to top = Decock.  This is spring-loaded and returns to Safe when released.  The safety interferes with the travel of the hammer, and the hammer drops on the hammer's half cock notch.  As the safety lever is released the hammer's half-cock notch eases off the safety and it moves forward to the rebound position.

Any position between the Safe position and the Fire position is just a mechanical illusion.  I, personally, wouldn't want to experiment with what happens when firing with the safety lever in these positions, because all sorts of ugly things might happen.
