cz 40p
« on: March 21, 2013, 04:22:52 PM »
I just wanted to say hi. I'm new to the forum. I just purchaed a cz 40p. This is my first pistol. I like it so much. I just ordered a cz 75b 40cal to go along with it. Any suggestions, such as upgrades  on my 40p? Thanks!

Go shoot it a bunch and when you get your 75B you'll realize it isn't as accurate as the 40P.  At least my 40P is!  Although I practice more with the SP-01 so I may be better with it now?

Is the 40P used (I'm assuming)?  If you have FTF then try polishing the feedramp.  Next get heavier mag springs.  I haven't had any issues with mine since.  It's my carry gun.

Cheers!
Toby

I'd get a stainless steel guide rod, maybe some nice grips. It's a great gun just as it is, doesn't really need a lot.

I paid a bit more than that, so don't sweat it. I ordered a CZ 75bd police afterwards, and though I haven't shot it yet, I must say it doesn't feel as refined as the CZ 40P. The 40 has rubber grips and an SP01 frame, as well as a nicer feeling decocker.

You'll see some folks have issues with reliability, but my understanding is that these can almost always be tweaked out with minimal effort. With my original mag, my first 400 rounds have been flawless - just a couple of limp wrists at first, and one aftermarket mag related ftf.

Some have said the MecGar CZ 75, .40 cal. 12 round mags work w/o mods, but I'll need stronger springs in the two I bought. Good luck.

Ouch, you guys are (almost) making me feel bad. I picked up my (like new) 40p in it's original box with an extra mag and a fobus holster all for $200.

Bought my CZ40P at a gunshow probably 5 years ago, still in the box with the extra mag and speed loader.  I want to say I paid $300 for it....best $300 I ever spent.  I agree with you, tdogg, get the Steve Bedair metal guide rod and it'll rock and roll.  Only problems I've had are finding replacement sites for it and mags.  I believe I'm going to take family man's advice and try the CZ75 12 rounders, and see what I can come up with.  Had a gunsmith friend of mine do some fancy trim/shave work on the slide which made it even lighter.  One of a few in the safe I'll never get rid of.
