CZ 27 side plate screw
« on: April 01, 2013, 10:37:15 PM »
Need side plate screw for CZ 27.  Anyone know of a place that can machine one?  Many have searched, few have found, it seems... The standard screws (two on grip, one inside) are not the ones needed.  This is a teeny tiny screw that goes into the early model side plate.

I will see what I can find and post it here ... allow me a week or so.  I have a good supply of the blanks to make the screw, but I will need to find someone who works with European shotguns or optics to cut the threads.  The sideplate retaining screws on the earlier CZ27's are often missing or badly damaged because many people try to take them out through the face of the side plate.  The sideplate screw is not threaded all the way in order to prevent its being removed in this manner.  To remove the sideplate properly, first remove the slide and barrel.  Once the slide is off, turn the sideplate retaining screw out until you meet resistance.  Lift the sideplate up and out.  (There is no need to actually remove the screw.)  If the screw must be removed from the side plate, it can only be done after the sideplate has been removed from the pistol.  With the sideplate free of the frame, turn the retaining screw IN until it drops out the back of the sideplate.  If/when you get a new screw it must be put in through the back of the sideplate, not the front.  I mention this so that you can check the threads on your sideplate and insure that they have not been damaged from improper disassembly.  My best to all, Joe

Fflpro, sorry it has taken so long.  If you still need the side plate locking screw, send me a PM with your snail mail address.  My best to all, Joe

I just wanted to give a "shout out" to Joe (damage93).  I was desperately searching for one of these screws after having to remove the broken original from a nice, low s/n example that was passed down to me (complete with extra mag and original, nazi-stamped holster).  I came across this thread and, after signing up for an account, sent Joe a PM.  I recently received via snailmail, a very close resemblance of the original screw.  I needed to take some material off with a dremel to fit my particular handgun but he did a great job.  He did this out of the goodness of his heart, completely unexpected and very nice.  Thanks damage93!  I'll be sending you a token of my appreciation.

The original side plate screw is designed to not ever fall out of an assembled pistol.  It is not supposed to ever screw all the way "out" (counterclockwise) of the plate.  In order to remove it from a fully assembled pistol, turn counterclockwise until it disengages from the depression in the frame (still attached to side plate) and remove the sideplate from the frame.  With the sideplate removed, run the screw clockwise all the way through the plate until if falls out.  Assemble in reverse, you'll need to start the screw in the sideplate slot first with fingers until it engages in the plate's threads.  Be careful not to damage threads in sideplate with wide screwdriver during disassembly or reassembly.

Believe it is in there so so tight . This last Saturday my son-in-law,  who extremely strong, took one  my jewelers screwdrivers & put so much force on it, the screwdriver busted apart . Only way I know how to take it will destroy the screw. I looked all over to get one, to no advail.
I wish I knew that was the size of the screw was, I would look to get one made.
Any ideas ?

Update and shout out to Jack First Gun. They shipped really fast and sideplate screw was a perfect fit as were the various springs I also ordered and replaced.
