Squibs scare me, any time I have a stoppage on my progressive I pull ALL cases from the shell plate, inspect, then restart. It's too easy for a squib on a 650. Things move fast, gotta stay on your toes!

If you don't want to pull all the rounds, you can weight all the cartridges and look for ones that are lighter by whatever the weight of your powder charge was.

RCBS makes several powder measures. I take it yours is a UniFlow. Like this...



Do me a favor and loosen the hex nut on the powder adjust stem, disassemble the rotor, and measure the bore of the rotor. The nut I'm talking about is bright green in this cartoon...

I'm concerned that you possibly have the rifle rotor installed by mistake.

If you're filling your cases to 70% as you stated, if you had defective powder your firearm would have been full of unburnt powder after the squib. No unburnt powder equals no powder. Did you have unburnt powder?

And Wobbly, I gotta ask . . . What do you do with the Lemon Oil on your reloading shelf?

I know you've commented about not using the large bore rotor before Mr. W, but...

I use it for pistol with no issues.

I doubt that Rip's problem. He just 'neglected' to charge the cases. ;)

This is why when I reload, I have no distractions. No radio, no cell phone, no nothing. If emergency means I have to stop, I will go back from the first die and check everything in order to find out where I stopped, even if I know where I stopped. It's the same thing when you shoot guns. You check your gun and all guns to make sure they are clear before handing them to anyone, or if someone hands you a gun. It doesn't matter if you checked it 10 seconds ago. You check it again and clear it.

If you have a harbor freight near you, I'd suggest dropping the 15 bucks on their "poly bins"

The come with rails to hang on the wall. They are small akro style bins that are great. One of mine is labeled "Thor hammer" that all seating check rounds go into immediately.

OK - Back to squib talk on 93.3 WMMR.

I measured the rotor NOT installed. 6.75. The rotor in the RCBS is definitely pistol rotor.

I measured each remaining loaded lead round. They were all within 0.5gr of each other - except 3. One was 2.6gr light!!!
Pulled all 3. Each powder was exact - 4.2gr. All three had light boolits - 123gr instead of 125gr.

I am leaning more and more toward distraction regarding squib and lack or powder as the culprit.
Any thoughts?

I started measuring bullets they all were 1 grain light or heavy. Mainly lube

I still check every 20 or 25 and always consistent with the RCBS.
Isn't that what a good quality powder drop is for?

It isn't usually the quality of the measurer that is in question.  It is the consistency of the operator.  Everytime you move that lever up and down, it needs to be done at the same speed, all the way up, all the way down.  The pause at the top needs to be the same each time.  On my Redding 3BR, I even take the cap off when in use.  I've notice that dropping with the cap off alleviates the "vapor lock" that is caused by the tight, rubberized cap.
