CGW spring kit for canik/tristar--awesome
« on: May 20, 2013, 10:45:34 PM »
I recently installed a CGW (Cajun Gun Works) spring kit in my tristar/canik C-100 (I mainly got the canik based on some of the positive reviews I have been reading in the magazines and on the net to try it out.) The CGW spring kit does wonders for the trigger on these guns. The double action pull is no longer stiff and heavy as this is one of the main things some of the gun magazine reviews have pointed out. Single action is also improved and feels great now.

If you have one of these guns, I highly recommend you get up with CGW (Cajun Gun Works) and order one of the kits as it truly transforms the trigger into a real trigger on these guns (You literally have a completely different trigger feel that is much smoother and lighter). Installing the spring kit with the mainspring, FPB spring, and firing pin spring is straightforward, and can easily be accomplished in 10 minutes or so (only takes a small punch to do). If you aren't a DIY person, I think they offer installation of all of their parts. Awesome kit!

I just received  the CGW kit for my T-100 but I have no idea how to install the hammer spring/mainspring. Is there any video or step by step instruction anyone can point me to? I also have some Wolff HD extractor springs I bought a while back when I owned a CZPO1. Any idea if those will fit the T-100?
Thanks for any help.

Just ordered a C100 and visited the CGW site as well. So the spring kit works well huh? Difficult to install?

I think the install is easy and straightforward, and like I said, the CGW kit totally transforms the trigger into one that is so much better. If you don't have one installed in your Tristar/Canik, you don't know what you are missing out on. There are several how to post in the gunsmithing section regarding trigger jobs on a CZ--pretty similar to working with the Canik. There are also youtube videos on the net regarding the same topic. The only thing that can be a little tricky is getting the mag brake back in as you have to push the mainspring plunger up in a little farther with a punch or corner of a block/table to clear the tab on the brake when putting it back it since the Canik doesnt have an extended lanyard loop on the mainspring plunger.

I'm actually a little confused.  I have a Tristar C100 and got the CGW spring kit with hammer pins.  I bought the punch too, thinking it was something special.  I have a set of punches though.  But at least on my gun, the hammer pins come out with a slight push, no punch is needed.

I just installed the CGW hammer and the hammer pins in the Tristar L-120 pushed right out.
The new pins in the new hammer were much tighter.

Canik hammer pins come out much easier. If you ever try to remove the ones from a stock CZ hammer be ready for some pounding as they are staked. The starter punch makes it easier for sure on the CZ

Yeah, they come out easily on the Canik/ Tristar. I bought the punch also, thinking it would work when trying to remove the firing pin. No biggy.

How did the new pins fit on your gun ?

I really like the difference the CGW spring kit made.
I also cut about half of a coil from the safety spring (the one that pushes that small bearing on the safety) it made a huge difference.

Since the hammer pins arent pressed in as tight as on the CZ do you think they would make a difference on the Canik if they were swapped out with the CGW hammer pins  ?
Just wondering ....

I don't believe the Canik/Tristar are a "press fit" at all. They just slide tight out and I understand they are relatively soft.
The CGW hardened pins in the CGW hammer will not slide out; they must be tapped in firmly.
Fortunately, the hammer pin holes are slightly tapered to make insertion easier. Thank you David.

So on my C100 the CGW hammer pins slid in just as easy as the factory ones.  I'm assuming they made no noticeable difference.  And no need to buy the starter punch.  I had previously broken my 3/32" pin punch so I picked one up for cheap to drive out the firing pin roll pin.

I really like the DA trigger pull now.  Before it required so much pull that firing it was a single, heavy motion.  Now I can actually ease the trigger back.

I have the CGW spring kits in my S-120 and Shark-FC. While the trigger is much better, the SA break is very tricky for me to time. I feel I need to install a CZ85 combat trigger with over travel stop, as the trigger pull goes way past the hammer release point. I had to get used to the trigger and so did my friend. It seems to drop the hammer earlier than you expect it to.

Installed the CGW springs on my C-100 this weekend and went shooting. Worked well. Both factory and CGW hammer pins were easily put in by hand. I bought the punch but didn't need to use it for this activity. It's a very nice punch and will certainly come in handy later.

A little while after I did just the spring kit and pins I also got one of the CGW Canik hammers. You want to get the best out of it, go with the hammer too. I also recommend changing out the trigger return spring with the CGW reduced trigger return spring. Makes one slick action particularly if you do a little hand tuning.
