IWB Leather Holster Draw Problem
« on: September 06, 2013, 07:46:09 PM »
Got a Falco IWB Tuckable leather holster for my P-07. The holster fits the gun great. it is well made. The problem is that once Inside the waistband, the P-07 is really hard to draw because the Tactile surface on the Slide really grips the inside of the leather holster. If it were OWB, it would not be a problem. But this is IWB only holster.

Any of you experienced the same thing with the Tactile Surface strips on the slide with an IWB leather holster?

If so, what is the fix, I tried varnish and beeswax, neither worked.

So, has anyone with a leather IWB holster had this same problem with the P-07?

The problem with holsters is that any one who has a few handguns around likely has a box of holsters to go with them that didn't quite fill the intended mode of carry as hoped. The fix is pretty obvious either start polishing the gun and hope it draws better which is also irreversible or try another holster.

To add to that, the carrier's body shape and gun belt. I don't have an all leather holster for my P-07, but don't some of them need to broken-in first?

Definitely. Just like a new pair of boots they get more comfortable with age and it does take a bit longer for a holster to loosen up. I have sat around watching tv on many evenings while twisting and bending a new holster back and forth just to get the stiffness out of it.

Place the unloaded pistol in a dress sock or plastic bag and insert it in your holster.  Do this for several days. This should stretch the holster just enough for continued snug fit while allowing for easier draw.  You might also try something like Galco's Draw-Ez, a specially lubricant for leather holsters that allows for easier draw.

I have had the same problem with my Phantom and a very well worn shoulder holster.  After messing around with it for a while I finally determined that it just wasn't going to work.  It may improve a little but not enough to give me confidence that if I need it in a hurry the holster isn't going to fight me for it.

Look into a hybrid type holster, they draw and carry really well. I use Alien Gear Holsters for my past several guns. For 35 bucks shipped its unbeatable.

Storz-Does the kydex part of your holster cause extra wear on your pistol? I like leather because it's comfortable, provides a secure fit and as a bonus it doesn't abrade the finish.  I don't have much experience with kydex.

My P-07 has hundreds of draws/re-holsters from a kydex Blade-Tech holster and there isn't one mark on it.  The finnish on the P-07 is really durable.

I have a old faithful iwb kit it was cheap and works great I where it all the time nice part is the retention is adjustable.  I don't worry about finish on this gun.  I had to use the $8 dollar blue kit on the slide my blueing wore quite a bit after 2 weeks of having it,my first one p07 (a model)had a good blueing though but didn't drop mags. Did have to file allittle off the kydex when I put fire optic sight on.

Ok, I'm going to try the Galco Draw-EZ, SASDesertRat. Thanks.

This has nothing to do with the leather not being broken in. It has to do with those two rectangular strips of rough gripping surface on both sides of the slide--they are the problem.

If the Draw-Ez doesn't help, then I am interested in the Blade-Tech IWB holster. I think it will be a non-sticky draw due to the hardness of the material. Thanks DandC for the recommendation.

I know this may sound ridiculous, but maeby try putting a strip of tape on the memory spots. Either clear tape or electrical. If it doesn't peel off when you draw and insert, it might just make it slippery enough not to get hung up. It would not be to obvious, and it would not permanently mar your finish. Other than that, use a plastic bag (as was already mentioned), or find another holster. You could maeby even lightly sand down the memory pads (that's what I call them). Good luck either way.

I tried putting a clear hard varnish on the memory pads but the surface is just so corrogated that it still catches the holster with a lot of friction.

Tape would work, but it is temporary. I hate to grind the memory pads so I am going to try Galco Draw EZ first. I read up on it and most folks say it works really well. I tried to find out the ingredients of it; but no luck so far.

Anyone know what is in Draw-EZ?
