cz 97 b, bd size
« on: September 13, 2013, 04:53:15 PM »
I have heard it is comically large, too big for some hands, etc.  If anyone has both a cz 97 and say a P-01 or 75, please post a side by side picture showing the size difference.  I am contemplating buying a 97 and would like to see just how "comically large" it is.

Thanks,
Mike

I will say this: that is a myth about the 97 being for big hands. Easiest way to prove this: the width for a 97 is 1.4 inches http://www.cz-usa.com/products/view/cz-97-bd/ whereas a 75 B is 1.38 http://www.cz-usa.com/products/view/cz-75-bd/

grip on the 97 is longer front to back to allow for the longer OAL of the 45ACP cartridge. given that, the length of pull to the trigger is slightly longer than it is on the 9mm platform.

Where did you get a 97b with a rail? They don't even make those that I'm aware of.

Also the 2013's come with thin aluminum grips, they're easier to handle than the old fatties.

Hey Stuart I really like that rail on the 97 I am very tempted to order it but would lack the guts to drill my frame . I might check with a local gunsmith for installation.

Glad to hear you aren't scared off by the size myth either. I didn't believe it either.

I picked up a used one yesterday locally. I have freakishly short fingers and have no issue whatsoever gripping this beauty.

Good luck finding one.

I have 2 SP01's and a CZ 52. Two out of three have decockers. For some reason, I prefer to decock rather than use a manual safety. I guess if you are carrying in condition 3 (I think it's called) where you have a round in the chamber and the hammer cocked, all that stand between a round exiting is a safety flick and a trigger pull. That's probably the best SD carry position for the quickest bullet leaving the gun time.

Still, with this in mind, (and with me being strictly a range rat so far), I like decocking better. I know that it will take extra effort to fire a round in that condition. The CZ 52's decocker is kinda funny and unreliable on some guns, but mine works flawlessly and I trust it. It leaves the tiniest gap between the hammer and the FP so some don't trust it.

All rambling aside, I think the 97BD is a great choice, particularly with the 2013 upgrades, and I hope to get one someday also.

I'm perplexed by all the "big hands" chatter. I think it must come from 1911 fans, they feel small to me, and I do not have large hands so far as I know.

The grip dimensions as I recall are within 2mm of the 75b, with the grips removed. Larger yes, but not by much.

I put Hoag(?) rubber grips on both my 97 & 75, and they feel very close to me. Weight is the larger difference. The 97 shoots smoother with less snap and I'm surprised how well I shoot it with open sights, which I don't do well with at all, rifle or pistol.

Maybe it's just that the 97 is more accurate than the 75, but I have some skill to develop before Schmecky gets to do his magic on it. Combat league starts in a week, and I'm undecided which to shoot yet.

Get it, shoot it, bets are you'll love it.
