Grips for Canik Shark C
« on: October 09, 2013, 06:53:15 PM »
I am looking for reasonably priced wood grips for my Canik Shark -C.  I understand that CZ compact grips will fit (maybe a little tweak needed).
Has anyone purchased any of the wood grips being sold on e-bay for around $35?  Seems they come from Thailand.  Wondering about the quality of the grips and reliability of the shipping from overseas.

I wondered about those as well.  I asked a question about the measurements of one of them, and it was too big for my Canik Stingray C.  Here some VZ grips I got for $65 for the Stingray:

Yep, but I made a mistake, as I looked up my account and they were $75.  Amazon had some for $65, which I did not get because they didn't have this one I wanted.  I merely ordered the compact cz-75

Oops, put up the wrong ones.  Here are the ones I ordered:

I have a T-100 and purchased and installed the CZ75 compact grips from Thailand. They were the ones with the finger indents on the left grip and checkered right. The checkering etc is fine. Fit was snap in except the right grip screw hole which has to be elongated slightly inward. Easy enough. After shooting several hundred trouble free rounds I wanted to reshape the right grip where the finger goes to the trigger and did so with sandpaper. Much nicer for my hand, so much so I pulled them both and made both a bit slimmer and took even more off on trigger finger area. My accuracy improved simply because I had a better grip. The stock ones are like a cheap plastic Fisher Price toy toolbox rasp. I like wood, the feel and look...but that is very subjective. How did I restore the finish after sanding? Ah...just like they do in Thailand for handmade wood stuff. Kiwi cordovan paste shoe polish. Darkness ends up however you prefer, durable...I have stuff from there 43 years old. It ends up with a satin finish. Yes, it does seem Rube Goodberg...I can live with the stigma. Mine arrived in less than two weeks, free shipping, well packaged.

I bet some leather conditioners would even work on the wood as a protective finish. I use some stuff from Australia simply called Aussie Leather Conditioner.

I do leather work and make all my own holsters. For leather I leave naked as in not finished with an acrylic or resolene; my favorite conditioner is the Aussie stuff.

By the way, I made a simple open carry holster for a Glock 21 and the CZ clones all fit it perfectly so I don't have change holsters when at the range or practicing with the different pistols.

Good to know the Thailand wood grips work. Thanks for the info!

I bought wood grips on Ebay from a seller in Thailand, for my Tristar C-100 and Tristar S-120.  The fit was very good on the C-100 and not so great in the S-120.  Both sets of grips arrived with no issues, but it takes 3 weeks or so to arrive.  I had to enlarge the screw hole by at least 1/32" on each.  The grips for the S-120 required me to remove wood on the top underside of the grip as well to get it to fit.  I am not complaining.  I like the grips.  I think I averaged $20 total cost for each set of grips.  I am very active on Ebay, so I like to wait for a good price on an auction, instead of using the "Buy it Now".  Here is an example of the type of Ebay listing I would track and bid on, if the price was low enough: item number 221293421176 or copy and paste "NEW WOOD CHECKERED GRIPS FOR CZ 75, 85, FULL SIZE" in your search, then you sort though them to get to the single listing that is an auction.  This listing is probably the seller I bought from because most of them don't have auctions.

I have installed Meprolights CZ compact set of night sights, also bought on an Ebay auction for ~$50.  I search through Ebay occasionally for CZ items I can pick up at a good price.  I also installed the Canik spring kit from Cajun Gun Works.

Here is a pic of the C-100: http://www.sccyforum.com/download/file.php?id=765&mode=view

Nice, paparshoot, I am looking at a T-120. I'm not sure what the diff is between that and the T and the C, but I'll bet they all shoot good.

The T-100 is the same as the Shark C. Same length barrel. The T-120 is the same but with a longer barrel. The number is suppose to be mm or close to the number like 100mm or 120mm.

The 'S' in S-120 signifies the frame is steel. The 'L' in L-120 indicates the frame is a lightweight alloy. Both of these look almost, if not exactly, like the CZ 75 B. The 'T' in T-120 or T-100 signifies the dust cover is Total or full length.

Hope that helps. At least this is the way I understand it. It can be confusing for sure.

The T-100/T-120 differ in grip size, 15vs17 round capacity, barrel length 3.7 vs 4.7, sights are different. Oh...the T-100 doesn't have a rail.

Thanks, that makes sense and is helpful.  There are a lot of places here and there that sell some of these, but you don't necessarily get good descriptions.
