A beautiful and interesting piece.
« on: October 22, 2013, 07:40:52 PM »
I just picked up a CZ 27 to add to my CZ collection. I think this pistol is beautiful. It's also interesting because I'm not exactly sure what I have here. The serial number, from what I can tell, places the manufacturing date around 1940 or 41. It has a couple of Wafen marks, but the nice finish is obviously more along the lines of a commercial piece. The grips are not standard CZ 27, which are normally bakelite, but walnut that has been hand checkered. The earlier CZ 24 had walnut grips, but these look different to me and the CZ 24 grips were not checkered. Then there's the magazine base. I haven't seen any pictures of the CZ 27 or CZ 24 with an extended mag base like this. I just think it's great. If anybody can give me any insight on the peculiarities of this pistol I'd appreciate it.
(is there an EASY way to attach files on this board?)

Very nice. I am in the process of picking one of these up myself so I'm interested to hear what people have to say.

What a beauty! Imagine if it could talk, the tales it would tell. It would be nice to think it was customized by an owner back during a dark period of world history. I've seen a couple of good looking 24's and 27's in the Czech Army Museum and they had the standard grips and mags, unlike this one. Treasure it!

Interesting pistol.  SAO blowback, with very little recoil in .32 Auto, as the following video shows:

Cool video. During the war years there was an FNH variation of the CZ 27. I don't think there is any difference between them though.

Somebody suggested that the magazine in my pistil may actually be a modified (or perhaps UNmodified) Beretta 1934 mag. I haven't had a chance to shoot my 27 yet, but I hope to this weekend. It would be interesting if the 27 could actually use a .32 Beretta 1934 magazine. My guess about the grip is that it is a modified CZ 24 grip that has been hand checkered. In this case, it doesn't bother me that the pistol isn't 100% authentic from the factory, just because it looks so frigging incredible the way it is modified.

The grip for the CZ 24 looks different to me than that for the CZ 27.

The CZ 22 was a Mauser design made under license:  .

The CZ 24 was a Czechoslovak design, but an apparent refinement of the CZ 22:  .

The CZ 27 is a further refinement:  .

Looks like all three models have wrap-around grips, but the more refined the model, the curvier the grip?

Is the 27 substantially thinner than the 82?  With half the capacity in .32 Auto, I would think so.

The extruding barrel is obviously meant for threading for a silencer.

007 would have loved this at least as much as his Walther.

At first I thought my grips were probably hand checkered CZ 24 grips, but now that I see the 24 grip curves in these pics,  my grips definitely look like the CZ 27 style. Now I'm beginning to think that mine were custom made for this pistol. Cool.

There were some 24s bult for a hungarian or polish contract and they had longer grips. Maybe they also bought some of these, or this is a frankenstien gun or something different. There was also some expermintal pistols made on '28 and '29, but the contract was not signed.
