Does the CZ 75B in 9mm has a supported chamber?
« on: November 22, 2013, 09:06:59 PM »
Hello guys, recently I have been doing my research and I found out that some .40S&W Glocks have a tendency to go kaboom. In a way people say that it is because Glocks don?t have supported chambers in their barrels. So, and for not making the story too long, I just want to know if the CZ 75B in 9mm has a supported chamber in its barrel? Thanks guys.

I find it totally amazing when the deficiencies in one brand of pistol are se heinous, they affect all other pistols.

CZ pistols do not suffer from the design choices of the Glock.

Also, this "unsupported chamber" nonsense is getting to be mythic in nature, as most of the Glock *KABOOM*s stem from overloaded or weak cases.

This is about as ridiculous as the guy on the AK board asking if he should download his AK mags so the feed lips wouldn't deform (as USGI aluminum AR15/M16 magazines are wont to do)

In short, you have nothing to worry about with a CZ.

Shooter17,

welcome.

you have to realize that there a several compoents to a KB.  The gun, the ammo, and the user.  Sometimes the user has made the ammo.  when a KB happens, who gets blamed first?  and then those components can be broken down further.

its no different if you put a bad batch of gas/disel in your car/truck.  would you blame the bad fuel on your car mfg?

So, this is just my opinion, that glock didnt address the KB as they should have so its an ongoing thing for them and will continue so.

ANY gun can KB and that inlcudes what you have or will have in the future.  Im not trying to scare you, but if you think about it, you have a controlled grenade in your hands, no different then a rocket is a controlled explosion.   Since youre probably new to guns you will see in the future ammo/gun recalls IF you pay attention and if youre lucky.

The gun is just doing what its suppose to do.  YOu as the operator, buys the ammo (facory/reloads/ or ammo found on the ground), maintains (or not) the gun and eventually pulls the trigger.

without doing a real analysis on a KB we will never know the true root cause.  I seriously doubt we will see any report of a KB unless someone funds it themselfves.  anything that goes back to a mfg will become their propriority report and probably for internal use only.

you can do EVERTHING right and still have a KB.

Has anyone ever actually had a kaboom with a 75?

Anyway, here's what Stehpen Camp had to say about it in his CZ 75 review:

"Note the wide ramp and the very good chamber support. "Kabooms" with the CZ are very unlikely. Note the protrusion at the top of the barrel ala Browning Hi Power."

Google for images of kabooms and you'll find that any brand can experience catastrophic case failures.  Glocks, HKs, XDMs, and yes, even revolvers.  CZs aren't immune anymore than other brands, but with properly loaded ammunition you'll probably go several lifetimes without experience a catastrophic case failure.

Google "CZ Kaboom".  You will find that in the all steel framed guns, Kabooms are pretty much non-existent.  There are a few documented polymer kabooms, and I don't recall finding any alloy frame kabooms.  Kabooms in CZ's in general seem to be much, much less than every other brand, even all steel West German Sigs.

Glock 40 cal kabooms were mostly in older guns. Gen 3 &4 Glocks have more support in the chamber area.
Most failures were caused by the ammo and shooter/reloader related.
CZ's have good chamber support, most 9mm guns do.

Hi points there impossible to kaboom even tho people think they would be one of the easiest. There's a 4 part series on youtube where they try to blow one up with over charges and find out that you can not put enough powder in a case to do so and beating a bolt down the barrel and shooting it out only slowed the gun down. They did kill it but not by any normal wear and tear. I think the 75b would far probably just as good tho the hi point does have thicker chamber walls the CZ has a stronger slide and probably made from better metal all around.

A Critical Look at the CZ-75
Stephen A. Camp

?

The CZ-75 uses a one-piece feed ramp and the pistol offers very good chamber support.

CZ-75 barrels do not come hard chromed. Armalloy of Ft. Worth, Texas, did this one. Note the wide ramp and the very good chamber support. "Kabooms" with the CZ are very unlikely. Note the protrusion at the top of the barrel ala Browning Hi Power.
