J&G Sales has them
« on: November 28, 2013, 09:44:49 PM »
Well, I noticed they have the vz-2008 rifles for $400...now if I had $400 I wasn't doing anything with I'd get one just to see the differences.

Nice to see they finally lowered the price from 800 that they have had them at for over 6 months.

These are Century Arms builds.

That should tell you why they're not selling well.

I own a Czechpoint and a Century.  Both are excellent guns.

I'm sorry but this another one of those ignorant elitist comments. VZ2008s sell very well in a world where most people don't know what they are. And the idea that they are so inferior to the Czehpoints rifles is absolute bull.

Regardless of "actual" quality, "Century Arms" name on it carries a stigma.

Century's original VZ2008 receiver source was known for shipping bad receivers (Century got stung by them quite badly with the "Golani").

. . . and those that "don't know any better" may buy one, find out first-hand how "Century Arms" builds rifles, and mistakenly chalk it up to "Czech design" (you know - cuz "they don't know any better").

Century doesn't build these rifles. They merely assemble them. And there hasn't been wide spread issues with 2008s for some time. I have seen more issues come out of Czechpiont rifles posted on this forum then I have Century's in the last year and a half.

THe people who "don't know any better" can only read "Century International Arms" on the side . . .

So what, its clearly no longer affecting peoples opinion of the 2008s if it ever did. Only people making statements like this are trying to keep a non-issue alive. People are buying them and loving them. I would not take a Czechpiont over my 2008 for anything. Theres just no need as they are both equal in my eyes.

Maybe I misunderstood your original point. If your saying its a crappy rifle because Century made it then that is absurd. If your saying its an excellent built rifle but the name Century stamped on the side with their bad reputation with other builds is the reason people aren't buying them, then I understand your point.

Thanks for the info A-man. Glad to see the opportunity for people without a lot of $$ to be able to get into the VZ58 house. I have one of each; 2008 for field use, D-tek for the range. The 2008 is where I started and neither have failed my needs. Experience is a great teacher and one has to start somewhere. Those that own the 2008, I hope your experience is as good as mine. So let's stay on subject ladies....

Exactly! Have some 600 trouble free rounds down range (Wolf and Tula Ammunition) and I think that if I was going to have trouble with it, it would have showed up by now.
It is very tempting for me to buy another one................................hmmm?  http://www.jgsales.com/cai-vz2008-sporter-ak-style-rifle,-7.62x39,-with-side-folding-stock,-milled-receiver.-p-3281.html

The Vz2008 is also a very good base for customizing and accepts most all fittings meant for the Vz58.

Vz2008 with upgrades
BoneSteel upper and lower front handguards
Mako Pistol Grip
Mako Folding Adjustable Stock
Slovakian Muzzle Break
Hammers Red/Green Dot Sight

This is an excellent opportunity, so lets stay on topic..................... and don't tempt my darkside!

I do believe there have been issues with the Century arms receivers, and they still come from several different suppliers.  These issues have not been seen on the Czechpoint guns, and there is likely no comparison as to the barrel.  Czech CHF barrels which are chrome lined would be preferred over an American button rifled contract barrel for durability any day. Thus, the two guns generally don't compare.  I say generally.  If you shoot occasionally, you may indeed have fun and shoot well with a 2008.  But for a "duty carbine" that you trust your life too in hard times, they are not on the same level.

Prove it!  >:(   Hearsay and Internet rumor are just not cutting it these days.
Regardless, you have violated my warning.

And yes, a Chrome lined barrel would definitely be preferable, but at this price, I can cope with a plain one.  I keep it coated with PB blaster or Ballistol.
