What's Your Next Handgun?
« on: December 07, 2013, 06:36:13 AM »
So what's on your list now? I know Christmas is approaching and this can really put a dent in a gun budget, but...this will not last forever. If you are like me, and many are, there is always a next gun. I find this getting more and more difficult as I acquire the guns that I have wanted and get them to where I want them to be. I have been going back on forth on this for awhile. I have a CZ 75 Compact in matte stainless. It has been fully customized by Cajun Gun Works and it has been my EDC ever since. But this model has been discontinued and a part of me thinks I should make her into a safe queen to save the wear and tear. With this in mind I have thought about getting another compact in black and doing all of the same mods and using it for carry and saving the stainless. Then I think, crap I'm 53, what am I saving it for? So I think maybe a CZ 85 combat. They are hard to come by and , of course, very pricey. It wouldn't really fill a niche for me. I could use it as winter carry in a shoulder rig. But I do have guns that already fill that need. Then I think maybe a P07. That would be a great gun to have since my daily carry spends a bit too much time in the car. Can't carry at work so whatever I take with me stays in the car until I get off. I have had a couple P07 and they are nice but don't really blow my skirt up. Cajun is coming out with some aftermarket parts for them in the near future so I will probably keep this one on hold for awhile. I recently got a Smith model 36. I really like the gun but I am concerned about pocket carry because of the hammer. So I was thinking about a hammerless version and came upon the model 40. I didn't know Smiths had grip safeties. Then I did some research and learned they have been doing that for a long while. Anyway, those guns are pricey also. So I guess I will just keep on debating with myself. I would also like a 97B in .45acp. But that too can wait. So, I guess I will post my "current" list. What's yours?

CZ 85 Combat
S&W Model 40 or 49 or 640.
CZ 75 Compact
S&W Model 66 .357.
CZ P07
CZ 82.

Great topic BW!

Most of my recent purchases (Phontom, Rami, & Varment) were not planned - they just happened!

I've got my eye on a used CZ 40P. Problem is they want about the same for it as some of the new CZ's. They won't budge, yet. So I guess I'd say I'd like a compact version of my SP-01 or some sort.

Although, that Springfield EMP 9mm sure has my attention!

Just went looking... here's one I'd love to have. CZ COMPACT L Black Manual Safety 9mm.

I just made my wife aware that I haven't gotten a gun in over a year.

My next gun purchase is most likely going to be a .22 for my boys, but I have a few on my want list:

Torn between a 97B and S&W 625
Really want a 97B in 10mm (CZ should have NEVER posted the prototype video!)

Here is mine

- Defensive pistol course.  Probably the following:
http://badlandstactical.org/courses/defensive-handgun/

- CGW defensive carry package, grips and night sight for CZ75B Compact

These two are at the top of my list right now.  Afterwards I would like to purchase the following:

- Full size CZ75B
- Ruger SP101
- Glock 20 Gen 4

CZ97 or SAR K245 or Witness45, FN45 or HK45, CZCustom Shadow or SP01 or 75 Omega, Ruger Redhawk 44mag or Taurus 44mag. Beretta CX9 or Keltec S2000 or a HiPoint 9mm carbine. A nice DA 22 revolver (probably a Taurus that wont break the bank). The Bersa Thunder Pro45 has always been intriguing and another 357 lever action would be nice. This could go on and on and on.........Dan Wesson 357 w/multiple barrels..........

Hopefully I can find a 75 Shadow T for a backup to my other one for USPSA next year.  Also wouldn't mind a P-09 for HD.

CZ 75 Shadow
CZ P-09

P-09 FDE (or peanut butter as Stuart calls it)
Protek II has been splitting duty for home and carry.  P-09 will get full time home duty.

CGW CZ 97 B "E"
I thought about DW Specialist, but I talked a friend into ordering a B"E" after his wife claimed rights to his Specialist. It only took one magazine to change my mind.  1911 will have to wait for a while.

Only problem with both will be the wait :(

Saving up for an EDC, hoping to get my hands on a Protek 2 or after I get used to shooting a .45 a DW Eco may be in order?

Oh my Christmas present to myself would be the full P-09 upgrade when schmeky has them ready :D

If no .45, then maybe a SP-01 as a project gun with CGW kits

The niche that's calling to me to be filled is a subcompact pocket pistol.  At this time, the leading candidate is a Beretta 3032 Tomcat, but I could be tempted by a CZ 2075 RAMI.  I fear, though, that a 2075 would prove to be less than ideal, too bulky, for routine pocket carry:

Pistol ? Estimated Volume (0.5?L?H?D), in3 ? Reduction Relative to CZ 75 Compact
CZ 75 Compact ? 26 ? 0%
CZ 82 and 83 ? 24 ? 8%
CZ 2075 RAMI ? 20 ? 23%
Beretta 3032 Tomcat ? 10 ? 62%.

I'm confident I could conceal the Beretta in any of my outfits, except my Speedos.  For that, I need something even smaller to fit into a crotch holster:

I've been checking out small revolvers for a while, wanting something easily concealable and totally reliable for CC. The S&W 638 & 642 look like real possibilities but they are pretty hard to find these days. I was also considering a Taurus Model 85 but am not convinced of their build quality and reliability. I haven't discounted getting a small semiauto though, a 2075 RAMI would be nice but they cost a bit more than I want to spend. I read somebody's post here on this board earlier today and maybe an S&W M&P Shield 9mm is a good option for me too.

I am a CZ fanboy. Went to a FFL to pick up my latest Christmas present, a CZ-82 (thank you, laserdoc!) and saw my first SCCY.

Not much different in size from a CZ-82/83.  For $300 new, might find one in a Christmas stocking near me!

Lots of rocks and stones, and pretty good with a slingshot!
