One nice thing about western WA ? no venomous snakes west of the Cascade crest. They must not like our winter monsoons.
I bleep near stepped on a prairie rattler in WY on two occasions. The first time the snake rattled as my foot was raised and poised to step on him. I have no idea how I did it, but in mid-stride I made a 180? turn and set a record for the 50-yd dash through the shrub-steppe terrain. The only reason I stopped was the realization that I might run into another snake.
Next time I find myself in prairie rattler habitat I will have my 75 Compact strapped on my hip and loaded with CCI pest control rounds with 53 gr of #12 shot.
