I'm waiting around for my C&R license right now.

Probably my next purchase is going to be a Mosin sniper for the wife.

Been looking at subcompacts lately. Think I've narrowed it down to a CZ83, Sig p232 or a Beretta px4 storm 9mm. Does anyone have any or all of these and can offer first hand opinions? I understand what forum this is but...

The CZ83 is a fine .380 pistol. It is accurate and being all steel, heavy enough to be fun to shoot. I've only put about 200 rounds through it in the time I've had it, but it has functioned flawlessly.

In comparison, I have an Interarms-era Mauser HSc in .380. Much less pleasant to shoot, not as accurate and nowhere near as reliable.

For a really compact .380, I have the Ruger LCP (first .380 I bought). It isn't a lot of fun to shoot, but after ~400 rounds of different manufacturers ammo, it has functioned 100% reliably. It isn't as accurate as the CZ83 when using the iron sights, but it is easy to add a trigger guard laser (mine is a LaserMax).

I have not fired the Sig or PX4 Storm for comparison.

an FYI -

Brownell's gives a discount on most items if you have an FFL (including a Type 3 C&R).

Thanks eastman, it sounds like the CZ83 is a strong runner. Of course it is it's a CZ after all. Thanks for your advice.

I'm in the same frame of mind as Towns, Heavy and a few others...

The subcompact 9mm's have my attention. I'm considering a pocket pistol and have started looking at everything out there.
So far, I plan to dig deeper into the Boberg XR9L.

Wow BDG I'd have to save for a couple years for a boberg. Please do a report on what you think of it if you get one. I've heard that those are not really stocked up, they pretty much make them to order. Is that a rumor or...

I agree, the price of the Borberg XR series is a bit on the upper end.
I have very few problems paying US labor costs associated with "Made in the USA" products as long as I'm convinced I am getting what I pay for.  Now I just have to see if the XR9 is sold in CA. Unfortunately, Borberg Arms is not listed on the CA DOJ approved for sale list. However, I have found 2 Borberg distributors in Los Angeles so I'll do some more checking soon.
Despite the list price of the Borberg XR9's I'm estimating that the XR9 would probably cost about 20% - 30% more than my "finished" CZ's. To become head over heels fanatical about my CZ'z I had to modify the action, fire control group, springs and hammer with the CGW PRO Pack. This added about 30% - 40% to the purchase price of the CZ pistols. In the end...my CZ's have not turned out to be completely bargain shooters. That said, I am convinced that I have received MUCH MORE VALUE THAN WHAT I HAVE PAID FOR MY CZ's!

Thank you TOK, I did see one portion of the charts you attached while I was researching the Kimber Solo. I appreciate that you attached the full comparison.

I have a few on the list:

CZ 75 Semi Compact
CZ 40B
CZ 97B
CZ SP01 (safety model)
CZ 75 Transitional Pre-B.

I would Cajunize them all except the Pre-B.  Want to leave that stock for people who are new to CZ.  Give them an idea of what a stock gun would be like.

As far as handguns, i am thinking about these once i recover from all of the CA SSE madness.

CZ SP-01 or 75 CTS Longslide.
CZ TS 9mm
CZ RAMI BD
CZ P-01
Ruger LCR 9mm - i am thinking this one is up next.

I still have a few options even in California.

Will work for CZ pics! (including but not limited to all CZ clones)

Thos are good options.

I would really like an LCR in 9mm.  I like my .38special version, and the reloading options for the 9mm would be much better.
I held a RAMI for the first time yesterday.  It was a much different feel than my 75BD or P-01, but I really liked it.
