Are the six dots at the bottom for identification?

yes. you can fill with small tab of paint or similar to ID the magazine.

Great idea, as long as one removes the base plate from only one mag at a time to avoid mixing them up.  My attempts to ID my mags with stickers and silver Sharpie have been less than a rousing success.

Do you have any base pads to go on the 18 rd mags to fit the 170mm gauge.

This pad

this spring and follower

equals 23 rounds 9mm in a 140mm magazine.

Those ARE really nice looking, and the dot idea is a winner.

what I am looking for is one that makes the mag + base pad = 170mm & maybe 25rounds.

this one + 20mm +/-

[T]he dot idea is a winner.

By my calculation, with a 6-dot coding system there are 59 possible codes.  I'd feel obligated, therefore, to own 59 magazines.  I can't afford that.

Isn't that more like 2^6 = 64 combinations :)

I stand corrected ? even less affordable.  I could probably afford a 2-dot system.  I've outgrown a 1-dot system.

Only thing to watch is the overall weight of the pistol for USPSA production.
USPSA has a  weight limit.
