Bonesteel VZ-58 Slovakian Style Muzzle Brake
« on: January 03, 2014, 07:12:29 PM »
Hello,

I am the proud new owner of a CAI VZ2008 rifle. I ordered the VZ-58 Slovakian Style Muzzle Brake and the VZ-58 Type 84 Style Flash Hider from Bone Steel. Well the Type 84 goes on with no problems.

The Slovak muzzle will not..... As far as I know the barrel is a RH thread.

Is the Type 84 a LH Thread?

Thanks

Most Century VZs are RH but some were done in LH apparently. I would look closer at the description of the muzzle devices you ordered and determine what threading they are. That should give you an idea of what threading your weapon has.

  Hi !
I'm kinda in the same boat...  Just today, I received my "Slovakian Sytle " muzzle brake and it doesn't fit.
After checking, I have a LH threaded brake  and a RH threaded muzzle.  If it turns out that you have just the opposite ,  let me know......  Maybe we could trade ???   ;D   mike

PS:  My invoice calls the part number a CNC-24205 and I need a CNC-23263, fwiw

Actually, the Slovakian Muzzle Brake will go on, it's just that you have to force it on a bit and the Slovakian Muzzle Brake's threads will conform to Your Vz2008's Muzzle threads when screwed on for the first time.  You will also be able to go back to the old Slant Brake if desired.  I just put a screwdriver thru the front of the Slovakian Muzzle Brakes holes and put it on.  Had to find out myself, the hard way.  Note the direction your Slant Brake screws on.  Your Slovakian Brake will go on the same direction.

Mako Folding Adjustable Stock
Slovakian Muzzle Break

Not if the threads are reversed! I had no issues screwing mine on. Make sure the threads conform before forcing anything.

I recently bought two VZ2008s and put Slovakian brakes on both, one purchased from Bonesteel, the other from CNC (who supplies Bonesteel).  Both installed with NO effort whatsoever.   Compare the threads on the brakes to the slant you took off... might be that you received a brake with the wrong threads.

Ordered a Slovakian Style Muzzle Brake from Bone Steel late last week, and a t-shirt.
Looking forward to shooting with it.

CNC Warrior does say on the Knurled Compensator page that you should tell them if you want it for a 2008 and they will chase the threads. FWIW, my Phantom flash hider from them went on fine on one 2008 but on a second one I had to chase the threads of the hider by using a screwdriver as someone here mentioned (screw on until tightish, back off and blow / clean out / oil threads, repeat). I want to get a second muzzle device instead of the nut I have on now and I saw that the knurled ones were on sale - I'm trying to decide between that one and just getting another Phantom style.

This muz device nearly eliminates recoil that was not all that bad to begin with.  It does eliminate "Muzzle Flip" completely.  The gun just sits there on target.....almost.  It does a tiny, real tiny,  "dip" that lets you see the target and rises right back to "on target".  FANTASTIC!

I paid $45 each for my three and I don't ever recall regretting the price till I read Pete's advice.  $19 is a steal.

One of my muzzle extenders was ruined by this brake.  The brake is made of super hard high quality steel.  The pitch must be off just a little as after getting it on TIGHT I had to remove it and it took all the threads off of the muzzle extender with it.  the brake is fine after I picked the sheared and mashed threads out of it.  I didn't know which piece was the problem but only one of the three brakes did this, thankfully.  Hardened steel and I mean really hard as the brake wasn't even scratched after chewing the extender to shreds.  If you need to chase the threads in the brake i suggest you heat the brake up cherry red before you try the tap or buy a spendy carbide tap to start.  Cherry red and a dip in oil will get you hard again.  Had this happened to my 2008 barrel I would be sick.

Just put on 4 on vz2008 rifles earlier today.  Two matched up and went on without issue.  Two had to be tapped with the bottom top. Cut a bit of metal too, and as John mentioned it was hard steel. I used a lot of oil when cutting.  One muzzle was still too tight so I ran a die over that muzzle, which had a high spot toward the muzzle end.  Those Century slant brakes must really have loose tolerances.

Ended up with the dreaded stuck detent pin on that rifle.  >:(
