mags won't drop free on phantom

Is there a remedy for getting the mags to drop free in a Phantom?   I'm guessing I can "sand" the inside of the mag well, but don't like that idea a tad...

Only mags that will drop free are the factory SP01 mags and extended Grand Power mags. Good luck finding the latter though, I had mine shipped to me from Slovakia.

I troll the classifieds and the equipment exchange on ar15.com and have picked up about 10 of them I think. CZ USA will have webstore sales occasionally on their 3 packs of the factory mags. Ie. $120 for 3, then 10% off.

What mags are you using?

The only ones that don't drop for me are the new generation MecGar with the friction coating. The older style 16s work great.

Mine has the same issue. Only the SP01 mag drops freely. All the others hang up.

Check the release spring. Mine was bent straight from the factory. Perhaps yours is as well, and needs to be straightened or replaced.

This seems to be a common issue for certain MecGar mags.  They drop for some Phantoms but not others from what I've been reading.  I read every post on every forum I could find and it was it or miss.  Really it was more miss than hit.

I bought a Phantom with one 18 round mag and I needed more so I decided not to take a chance.  I bought a three pack of 18 rounders.  I ordered them last week and they got delivered and shipped ASAP from CZ.  They were on sale for $120 so I couldn't resist.  I got them yesterday and tried them all.  They all drop.  They don't just drop.  They pop out nicely.  ;D

They're on sale, dude.  Have at it.

For anyone still interested in this issue I came up with a solution for me.  I tried different mags, sanded the ones I have, looked for interference points with markers, etc and nothing really worked.  I don't have large hands and to reach the mag button I have to stretch my hand around the grip which put pressure on the grip and would make the magazine bind.  If I pull my two middle fingers back (3/4 to 1") to the side of the grip, opposing the button, I can push the button harder without compressing the grip and all my mags now fall free.  The palm of my hand doesn't slide around the beaver tail when I do this so I'm still in position once loaded to shoot.  It's not a natural thing to do for me, but after practicing it a few minutes my stuck mags went down to very few.  Hope this helps someone.
