P07/09 backstraps
« on: June 06, 2014, 11:23:44 PM »
For those with either the P07 or P09, which backstrap came installed on the gun? The only place that stocks CZs locally is a sporting goods chain. They don't seem very well informed on the brand and could not answer this question.

Thanks in advance.

On the P09 (don't know about the P07) the straps are labled "S", "M", and "L" on the bottom near the lanyard loop. I've only handled one but the small strap was installed from the factory. Double check the one at your LGS to be sure.

Large was installed on my P-09 when I opened the box from the factory.

JimPatch,

The small backstrap was installed when I received my CZ P-09 from Cajun Gun Works. as Old_ stated, the backstraps are marked near the bottom, at least on the P-09 they are.
Stay safe,

FYI - In case you aren't already aware of it, swapping out the back strap requires removing the main spring plug pin. Not a difficult procedure but does require more steps (and caution with the main spring tension) than a slip/snap on design, especially if you want to check out the feel of the three sizes on a store counter.

Quick question for y'all who have both the early P-07 Duty and either the new P-07 or a P-09.

Which backstrap is the closest match to the original Duty size grip, small or medium?

I have an older P07 so I can't speak about the new ones and their back straps.

Let me tell you about my M&Ps and their back straps so you can check your "reaction" and see if it makes a difference for you.

When I got my M&P, I tried the different back straps and the largest one felt the best.  When I got my second M&P I put the largest back strap on it, too.  At the range, they felt just fine and I didn't notice anything amiss.  However, while dry firing, I noticed a problem.

If I was looking directly at the target in front of me when I brought the gun up the sights aligned perfect, just like they should.  If the target was off to the left, right, high or low, when I brought the gun up, the sights would be "off" and I'd have to make a secondary adjustment after the gun was up.  I've never had this issue with the 1911's.  When the gun was up, the sights were aligned and on target.

I went back to the house, got the other sized back straps and took them out to the edge of the woods behind my house.  I put the medium sized one on and the sights were closer, but not on the target when the gun got there.  I put the small back strap on and the problem was fixed.  When the gun came up, the sights were aligned with the target.

It may not be an issue for you, some folks said I just needed to practice more and the problem would go away.  However, I have more than one brand of gun and I wanted to make sure the M&P and the 1911 worked the same for me.  Try yours with the different sized back straps and see if one works better than the others vs. feels better than the others.
I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?

M1A4ME, I did a similar exercise with mine.  I close my eyes (in an empty room and with an unloaded gun obviously) and draw and present the gun to a spot that I believe is directly in front of me.  Hold there, open eyes.  Where is the gun aiming?

The largest backstraps for the CZs fit my hand the best, but not unlike some Glocks, if I close my eyes and present the gun, it's pointing up into the sky.  The smallest backstraps afford me the most natural point-of-aim, but the grip feels just a little small in my hands.  The medium backstraps are a good compromise, although if I'm honest, my natural point-of-aim with those is still a touch high.

I don't know if that's the "best" way or the "right" way to pick a backstrap or grip angle size, but it seems that the grip that allows to you point straight ahead with the least amount of correction required is the optimal one.
