My CZ 75 D Compact (aka P-01)
« on: July 25, 2014, 07:04:41 AM »
Hello Gents,

Thought I'd formally introduce my new pistol. My wife was kind enough to order me a CZ 75 P-01 from Bud's Gun Shop. I had been hemming a hawing about how I wanted to get a P-01 but can't ever find them in shops locally. I was showing her the P-01 on Bud's and when I went outside to do some yard work she got on the laptop and ordered it for me (I think she knew I wouldn't). Needless to say, I was psyched.

Ordering from Bud's was simple and there was an FFL in my area that was listed as a premium dealer so I didn't even have to have their FFL sent. Bud's automatically ships to them without FFL need. I used Sauer's Trading in Pennsylvania FYI. Let me give a warning, that others may not know (I didn't), Bud's takes a REALLY long time to process and ship your order. It was 15 days from when my order was placed to when it made it to my FFL. I really don't find that acceptable, but it was a good price and it made it to me eventually.

Upon picking up my firearm after work, I was surprised to see that although the box was marked CZ P-01, the slide was marked "CZ 75 D Compact". Thanks to this forum I knew that it was the same gun, just the Euro version. I know that in times when demand is high sometimes CZ will send over some of the Euro stamped slides to meet the supply needs (at least that's what I've read). I actually like that it's a bit different than I'm used to seeing. Makes me feel special hahahaha.

I have not made it to the range yet, but I'll give my initial impressions. Fit and finish is fan-flipping-tastic. Well machined. Rubber grips are amazingly comfortable, as we all know. Sights leave a lot to be desired. My front sight is sloppily painted (go home whomever painted that sight, you're drunk) but the rears are decent. They are the standard 3 dot yellow glow paint variety. I will be sending them to Cajun in a couple months to have some mepros put on so I'm not too concerned. The trigger is a heavy but smooth pull in DA and the SA is very light. In fact, it's surprisingly nice. I've shot P-01s and P-02s before and I'm amazed at this SA pull. I think I lucked out! I'm sure I have this pistol forever and will enjoy many thousands of rounds being put through it.

Here's my new CZ:

I'll have  range report on Saturday. Happy shooting!

Very nice.   That is great.  I had much of the same impressions that you did, when I first got my P-01.  It only gets better!

By the way, if you don't already know, find out your wife's love language and do something nice for her :).  She sure deserves it!

Towns,
Thank you! Oh I know what she likes hahaha. She said she got it for me because I never buy anything for myself and I've done so many house projects lately. We moved in June to a new house and I've spent the past month painting, landscaping, ripping and redoing flooring, etc. I think she just wanted to show me how much she appreciated it.

knoxy,

Will do and thank you.

Made it to the range this AM. My impression after shooting this gun is that it is one slick bad little piece. I love it. The recoil was very soft and shooting at a relatively quick cadence was easy. Accuracy is better than I will ever be. Sights were adequate, and are the only thing I feel needs to be changed in the near future.

Here's a shot of my target at 7 yards after 3-14 round mags and 1-15 round mag (57 rounds):

Five shots got away from me but it is worth mentioning that I was switching between shooting from decocked etc.

All-in-all I put about 150-200 rounds through the gun today with no malfunctions. All the mags I brought with me worked great 2-CZ and 3-MecGar. This gun is wonderful!

Great shooting Genin, I just got my P 01 2 days ago & haven't shot it yet. The sights are bad & I did what I do on all my guns which is paint the rear of the front sight all white. I also put a red dot in the center & it really brings it out. You can take it right off with a Q tip in lacquer thinner if you don't like it. I will also put white paint in the 2 rear dots as they are invisible now. I use a good grade of nail polish even tho I have a lot of model paint.

I have Big Dot sights on my XDs 9 & they are super. I read an article by Richard Mann and he said that Jeff Cooper used Big dot sights on his 1911. Mann uses Big Dots too. The full rear of the front sight painted white is nearly as good.

Towns,
Thank you. I'm hoping to get back to the range today after doing some yard projects.

viking,
Thank you very much.

gene,
Thank you for the kind words and suggestion. I'm thinking I will just leave them be for now since I want some meprolight sights put on. I doubt these sights will be on my pistol for more than another couple months. Your idea does sound good though and I bet it would greatly improve the sight picture.

Addes VZ grips to my CZ P-01 and put my CZ rubber grips on my Stingray-C. The rubber grips required minor fitting to fit on the Stingray-C. I had to slightly open up the screw holes on the CZ grips to get the holes lined up for the Canik.
