Extended manual safety CZ 75 SA on a SP-01 ???
« on: April 22, 2006, 01:24:44 AM »
Hi folks,

I'm new on this forum. I'm intend to purchase a SP-01 but I don't yet if I will take the classical version (manual safety) or the tactical version (decocker) or a Shadow because I don't like the fiber front sight. What is the best to shoot in production division ???
I like the extended manual safety like on the CZ75 SA but I don't know if it's possible to put this lever on a SP-01 and if it's authorized to shoot in production division.
I think an extended safety lever is better to control the gun during fire.

Thanks for replies.

I have been told yes by Matt Mink and Angus that it is possible and it is legal..

they also added it is not an easy swap..it possibly requires a few more parts to be switched depending on certain things of the SP01 being worked on..and that the parts, especially the ext. ambi safety are quite expensive.

brucop Youre asking cos You think an extended safety lever is better to control the gun during fire and not cos the safety is  faster to find on the draw?

Im asking cos I read the rulebook as if I have to start in DA with my SP01 in production and Im just interested to hear if that is how everybode else have read it to...

Regards

In USPSA production..the gun starts with hammer down or at full decock..

truthfully I never even use my safeties...but I like the looks of them on the gun

After using a BHP with a barrel bushing I am wondering why CZ has not incorporated it in ALL the CZ models.
This concept has been around for about 40 years by custom gunsmiths.  The improvement in consistent accuracy was amazing even with a standard barrel. Angus, bend some ears over there at CZ USA. This should not be an option but a standard in this fine pistol. In addition aftermarket gunsmith fitted bushings, ambi safeties /mag.releases and spring kits should be offered. bleep! If the Italians have the foresight to do this to expand thier market why doesn't CZ. Just an opinion from someone that has 3 Tanbleeplio's but wants to buy a SP01 Tactical that he can work on himself.

just to go further on this topic of buying a donor 75sa to make a wicked SA/ wide safetied SP-01...

What all is needed to do this? and will the SA gun be functional with the da/sa parts in it?

I believe the shank of the safety lever of the wide safety is thicker than that of the small safeties stock on the SP-01... so logic says I have to enlarge the holes in the SP-01 frame to get it to fit... you'd transfer the whole sear cage and guts(sear, sear spring, fpbl and fpbl spring)...
Anything Im missing???

So if the smaller shanked safety levers(and coresponding sear cage and guts) of the SP-01 get put in the SA frame would it be functional or would the parts be rattling around and non functional due to the larger safety pin hole?

Thanks in advance!
Peace

the frame holes are fine..in the SP01.
for the SP01..you need a sear cage ( ejector housing ) the new safety parts..and I think the retaining plate and spring for the off side safety..

if you have the two gun..you should be able to switch the parts..the thing to check is that the last SA gun I had..the hammer did not have a disconnector hole in it..so for the SA gun to run as a DA/SA gun..you will need a new hammer, disconnector bar and pin.

I have the ext safeties on my SP01 and am spinning up project to convert an SA framed gun into a DA/SA gun for competition in IDPA and USPSA..

Yeah Id swap the hammers over too so the DA disconnector and pin arent a big deal but I just want to know if Im gonna render the donor SA gun useless...
