IDPA scoring does provide more of a penalty for inaccuracy than IPSC/USPSA and it shows itself when you move down the food chain to B & C Class shooters in IPSC and Sharpshooter & Marksman shooters in IDPA play.  The latter categories is where most of the shooters dwell, a fact often missed in these type of conversations.

I don't think so.

You can argue it any way you want it but the fact has been proven by countless cross over shooters that IDPA master  = USPSA B class, at best.

An average USPSA B or C class shooter will crush almost everyone at any IDPA match you care to find.

In addition to the fact that a miss or a FTE hurts twice as much in USPSA, you also seem to forget that the USPSA target has -2 and -4 zones if you are shooting minor PF, while everyone gets the lesser deductions in IDPA.

You really think so.  Most your shootera are A Class in USPSA.  You think you have fewer B an C class shooters.  You might want to check the stats.

We have a DM Revolver shooter who won the BC Provincials and was 2nd in the IPSC Nationals up here who shoots Expert in IDPA SSR Division.

Shoot the IDPA Classifier and let us know what your times are and state your USPSA Classification if you have one.  I can't believe how insecure some of you folks are.  We are the biggest, we are the best, almost a need for some to overcome your inadequacies.

My favorite is USPSA.  I like long field stages.
Next is steel challenge.  Drag racing with guns.
Finishing the final 3 is 3 gun.   Like USPSA with added complexity.   Scoring rewards speed even more than USPSA.   I wish I had the time to get as good with my rifle and shotgun as I am with my CZ85.

I would love to shoot some IDPA.   The must be a member after the first match keeps me away.   Forty extra dollars to shoot one or 2 matches a year doesn't make sense.   If I have the time to shoot 4 or 5 matches a month, IDPA would be in the rotation.
Don't mistake my high post count for knowledge or wisdom.   I just like hearing myself type.

Go ahead anyway.  None of the clubs around me enforce that, and I bet very few around the nation do.

I will do a match some day.   Just to see what it's like.   One of the factors on which revolver I bought was making sure I had one that was IDPA legal.   Given that I know memberships are what pays for IDPA, I don't feel right abusing the system.   For now, I have more matches I want to shoot than I have time to shoot them.   Within an hour drive, I have 3 USPSA, 4 3 gun and 3 Steel challenge matches a month.   I only have time to shoot 1 or 2 a month.

I like USPSA for the big fields of fire and high round count.
I like IDPA because it forces you to aim better.
I don't want to get in the flame war about which is best or who can shoot which better, yada, yada.

IDPA has FTN, Failure To Neutralize and it's a heavy penalty. A down 3 and a Mike costs you extra whereas a D and a Mike in USPSA is just a low score.

However, I'm getting to hate many of the new IDPA rules and don't shoot it all that much anymore. Maybe once a month or a little more but I shoot USPSA at least 5X month.

All that being said, I'm one of a founders of a new ICORE club. I'm liking it a lot!  I know, I know this is a CZ forum and they don't make revolvers. Perhaps they should.
If at first you do succeed - try to hide your astonishment.

Unless I'm mistaken,  these are "GAMES".  Games have rules and equipment requirements.
Games are developed for those who enjoy competing.   If your smiling when you finish and anxious to play again,  it's a good game.

The top soccer players (football) and the top football players (American football) are highly skilled at their games.
Both use similar but different equipment skill sets.
Softball vs hardball,  similar but different equipment and skill sets.
These don't compete against each other to find the "best ball players".

So if IDPA stresses accuracy over speed as some claim, why is the entire head of an IDPA target a -0 zone when on a USPSA metric target it is delineated into an A/B zone?  The A-zone on a metric target (the -0 pt equivalent) is a mere 2" x 3" box, surrounded by a 6" x 6" B-zone which scores -1 or -2 pts depending if shooting major or minor PF...

A D-zone hit and a Mike is -14 pts if shooting minor.  That hurts your score in this game and your match finish won't suffer too many of those even with speed.  Granted, -14 pts on a 32 rnd long course (160 pts) is less painful than say on a 6 rnd (30 pt) short course, but on that long course you'd have to make up about 2 secs of time to mitigate that many points down assuming a HF stage of 7-ish.

I shot a USPSA match today where we had a lot of partial hardcover and NS covered metric targets at 20+ yds.  Not exactly what I would consider a hose fest with wide open targets at bad-breath distances...  Accuracy was key today (as was foot work, stage plan, reloads, and reloading while retreating...).

Why use 911 when it's faster to use 1911 or 9mm?

Larry,  I shot a Steel Challenge match this morning.  It was a fun.  I like bang ping too.
I had some almost decent runs with both speed and accuracy on the closer in stages,  but from 17 to 30 yards yards I suck with iron sights. To hit with every shot,  I have to play bullseye timed or slow fire.  ;D

Well said.

Those who say IDPA rewards accuracy more than USPSA, or that you can hose everything with bullets with no regard for the A zone, either have never shot the sport, don't understand hit factor scoring well, or got spanked and went back to IDPA with the tail between their legs.

I shoot 3 to 4 uspsa a month and 1 idpa a month. Uspsa is my favorite but I have an awesome time racking up procedurals in idpa.

We have IDPA and bullseye matches locally, one match per month each.  I voted for bullseye because I am better suited for that type competition than I am for IDPA.  I don't follow rules well, and I don't watch others well (unless I have a camera).

I like the stage games just fine, I just like bullseye better.  And I've won a bullseye match or three.  Not gonna win an IDPA match unless no one else shows up, LOL.  But I admire those who CAN shoot the game gun matches well without getting any procedurals.
