Jericho 941F safety
« on: October 02, 2014, 03:46:43 PM »
I've got a 941F Jericho with the frame mounted safety that i bought used from a friend.  The safety itself doesn't work properly, it does not stay in the up position, if i pull the trigger, the safety pops out of position.  I'm not sure if the safety detent is worn out, or if it was replaced.  Anyone have any ideas?

You're missing a little spring and a flat piece of metal that fits in that recess. Tanfoglio and SAR use a similar mechanism in their frame safety guns, though I have no idea if the parts will swap.

I much prefer the ball-bearing detent that some other manufacturers use.

Unfortunately, the Witness Safety will not swap, from what I have seen. I'm thinking the Canik Safety would be a closer match.

I think your best bet would be to contact Magnum Research, the importer, to see if they have or can order the parts, or can service your pistol.

I took apart the safety, its got the flat piece of metal and a spring. could it be the spring is worn?

If you have all those parts and it wasn't working, it was probably just assembled wrong. The spring should be pushing the pointed end of that piece toward the front of the gun, which should be making it interact with a little raised portion of the frame underneath the safety lever.

i reassembled it, with the spring pushing the pointed end. The safety still does not stay in place.  I'll try finding a replacement spring, maybe from a lighter and see if its the spring.

***SORRY PHOTOS WON'T LOAD HERE*** Links Work!!

The detent selector is in backwards.

I had this same problem recently. We came upon this thread, and that was the only hint of extra parts in that safety assembly.

I now have an answer for all past and future travelers who may land here!

This is the Jericho 941 Frame Safety assembled correctly. The concave end rides against the spring and the cam of the safety. The bump on the end will cause the safety to lock into safe and fire positions. The way it's assembled in the below photo will be where you'll need to have it when re-installing into the frame. This is locked "up" into the safe position.

Here's all the parts (pencil points to spring).
The "selector detent" (don't know official title) is below in it's correct orientation

Hope this helps!

i went ahead and did the switch on the detent.  the safety only goes up halfway and does not lock.  the only way to get it to lock is push the slide back a bit. Once i do that, the safety goest into the full position. Is that normal for this handgun?

l'm not familiar with the particulars of each different clone, but the hammer position may be the issue.  l believe some of these CZ clones will only allow the safety to go ''on safe'' if the hammer is cocked.

funny you say this. usually this kind of post is several years old and the links dont work anymore but luckily for me, this is pretty current. thanks for the photos, it helped me out a lot. i thought the detent had to rest on the point, not the side (which was a PITA and i wondered why it was designed like this). in anycase, i now have a working jericho safety, thank you ;D
