S&W 929 9mm Revolver at USPSA Match
« on: October 20, 2014, 09:14:35 PM »
I shot a USPSA match this past Saturday,  our squad had the local resident revolver shooter/guru-- "Gregg"--Master Class.
Gregg was using a worked DA S&W 929, 9mm revolver with beautiful wooden comp. grips.

There were 7-8 Masters, two GMs (Open Class) and  an assortment of A's, and B's, etc  shooters shooting all classes: Production, Limited 10, Limited, Open, Single Stack and Revolver.  The 5 Stages ran from a "Qualifier" with 8 shots to field courses with 26 to 32 rds.

Gregg won the match!  That revolver and Gregg were incredible.  He never looked like he was moving at break-neck speed.  He just seemed to never stop shooting.   Reloads were incredibly fast with the "8"-rd moon clips. The 929 looked and shot like a million bucks.  The scoring was BORR.INNG:  Alpha, Alpha,Alpha......... with just two or three Charlies for the whole match.

If looking for a 9x19 / 9mm revolver,  this one shoots amazingly accurately and fast.  Just watching Gregg and this revolver shoot was worth the match fee.  You've never heard me say that before now.   ;D

Mod,  This wasn't a CZ,  so I posted here instead of the Comp. & Tactics forum.  :-\

Did he bob the hammer or did he have a full hammer on the gun?

James,  I don't know.  The grip was an eye-catcher and I was watching mostly from a little distance away.  He did show me the loaded moon clips when I asked him about the pistol.  he was using reloads with coated lead bullets---my guess is 124 gr.  He said it was a pleasure to shoot.

I've watched other good shooters with revolvers,  but this one reached out and grabbed me because it's 9x19.

This I find almost unbelievable. I would love to see video. Hard to imagine anyone could shoot a revolver faster and more accurately than grandmasters shooting hi cap open guns. A few guys shoot revolvers in my uspsA group and their times are way, way slower than everyone else. That guy must be some shooter!!!

Jon,  he competes in Limited and Revolver classes.  In USPSA Revolver he's rated  A class,  but I suspect that's upper end A class.
I've shot with this gentleman a number of times,  and with a revolver he's amazing.  The S&W 929 holds eight 9mm bullets,  so "most" shooting positions are good for him if he doesn't miss---and he doesn't.  Race holster first shot is very fast.  As I said above,  he doesn't "look like" he's running anywhere,  but he's shooting   almost constantly.

Riptide, I have twice.  In steel challenge the revolver is competitive with any handgun made.  He uses iron sights which doesn't seem to be a handicap.
