US made VZ58 wood stock set
« on: October 23, 2014, 06:29:37 PM »
I wanted a wood stock for my VZ58 and was really close to pulling the trigger on a surplus set from a fellow forum member (who is excellent to deal with - didn't want to advertise name without permission).  I found a "reproduction" set in the US but it needed hardware and additional finishing so I passed on it.  I liked the idea of surplus wood stocks but then matching, fitting, etc could be an issue - not to mention source, though I do know a member here with great ones available.  I quite randomly found the seller "mikemanassas" on ebay.  This seller makes a curly cherry set with a tung oil treatment that looks AMAZING!  I haven't seen many references to him but if you are looking for an easy to install set I highly recommend this one.  All hardware is included with the stock set.  I had it on in about 5 minutes... Since a lot of my CSA rifle is new anyway I figured getting a new production wood set didn't matter too much.  It handles excellent.  The wood is actually thicker than original wood stocks to mitigate the cracking problem the originals had when they would heat up.  So if you debating whether to buy this one, don't!  It is an excellent, excellent buy IMHO.  The fact it's all US made helps also...   Here are a few pictures:

This entire set comes from the same piece of curly cherry wood and matches perfect.  Any difference is lighting...

Very nice, sir, very nice indeed! Is the wood significantly heavier that your previous setup?

I appreciate it armoredman!  It feels very well balanced with the wood and while of course heavier - I wouldn't call it significantly heavier.  Once you put all the rails, sights, lights etc on a tactical version (ie - my other one) I wouldn't call the weight an issue at all.  Handles quite well actually!  This previously had the black Czech furniture as sold from Czechpoint (VZ58 tactical but with a regular black stock instead of the AR stock)...

$295 on ebay for the furniture with all hardware.  Looks great bro, but the left side of my brain is having difficulty justifying $300 for new furniture on my $300 rifle from CSA. Had my hopes up and would get it if I had the cash though, but I got a wife and bills.

I would probably swap somebody their fixed stock for one of my folders.

Haha - technically I used the "best offer" button but after seeing the quality of it I am ok with his asking price;)

By the way - NICE score finding a CSA for 300!  I'd say that's like a lottery win!

Re: US made VZ58 wood stock set - Range Test

For anyone searching for a review prior to buying:  I put 61 rounds through the rifle pretty quick.  Not a major test but while the metal was quite hot the wood hand guards hadn't heated up yet.  I think since they are thicker than the original they will take some abuse.  I was going to put on the side mount but it just looks too cool with the wood so leaving her as is...  I have a set of Czech black furniture if anyone needs it...;)

Sweet.
Yes it's not cheap to own a rifle as good as that.
It's like having a foreign model for a girlfriend except
it doesn't cost as much and it doesn't complain either.

If you keep doing what you've been doing, you'll keep getting what you've been getting.

Very nice looking.
I only have folders, I should pick up a beaver barf butt stock just to try the feel.

Preciate all the comments!  It handles very nicely in the wood stock!
