CZ 612 HC-P 922r compliance
« on: October 28, 2014, 04:48:41 PM »
I recently bought a CZ 612 HC-P and now I'm looking to do some modifications to it, but I'm a bit confused as so how 922r applies. I read through this whole topic and just became more confused:

A CZ 612 is listed by the ATF in their letter as having 12 parts, but this list does not include pistol grip that is standard on the HC-P version. Is the pistol grip on the HC-P considered a part of the stock (since they are a solid piece)? Is the pistol grip stock on the HC-P attached after it's imported into America or are pistol grip shotguns with 5< shots allowed to be imported? The HC-P model comes with a pistol grip stock already attached, doesn't this make it a "non sporting" weapon? Could I replace the current pistol grip/stock with an American made one without worrying about compliance issues?

I'm also interested in getting a mag tube-extension. Someone said that adding a tube extension doesn't count as a compliant part, only replacing the whole tube would. Does adding a tube extension that gives it more than 5 rounds make it non-compliant if no other modifications are made? What if I replace the whole tube instead?

922r states that you can't use imported parts to assemble an "unimportable" weapon, but I can't even really find an explanation about what exactly makes a pump action shotgun unimportable. 18 USC 925 doesn't really seem to explain what a weapon "particularly suitable for or readily adaptable to sporting purposes" is, except that it can't hold more than 5 rounds as a shotgun.

Some concrete answers would be helpful, thanks.
