75B - New Slide or New Gun
« on: November 27, 2014, 11:22:31 PM »
I have a 75B SA .40 SW that was converted to DA/SA by CZ Custom, along with a trigger job.  It is a fantastic package.  I also have the Kadet kit for it.

I would like to pick up a 9mm for range and carry.  I have an XDS 9 for when I want to go small and light.

I see that CZ Custom sells a 75 Shadow 9mm complete upper.  I'm told this should simply slide on like the Kadet kit.  I would just need some 9mm mags.

The other option would be to pick up another gun.  While I might consider an M&P or XDM, I love the 75B platform.  Going this route, I would lean towards a PCR, for no specific reason.  Although it should work with the holster that I primarily use.

The downside to the slide, is that it costs nearly as much as a new gun.

Has anyone gone down the road of adding a complete upper?

Other thoughts or recommendations?

Just buy another gun, 75B 9mm, and use the slide on top of your other frame.

Is your frame set up with the firing pin block lifter? The Shadow and Kadet slide do not have the FPB, not sure about the SA 40 slide.

You can use any 9mm slide but you will have to remove the FPB plunger, no big deal.

My solution would be buy a gun then sell the frame.

When I talked to Stuart at CZ Custom, he said that I could simply slide on the complete upper.  So I'm guessing my frame is all set.  I will check with them before doing anything if I decide to add an upper to my existing frame.

As for a different gun, I see that my local shop has a GP100 Match available.  ;D  It is also on my wish list.

I suppose I could get a simple full size 9mm.  I would just have to replace the rear sight, but I did that on my current frame.

Do you know if the upper from a full size 9mm is a simple replace on a SA frame?

Does it matter if it is an Omega trigger version?  It looks like those are cheaper.

 ;D

I talking more with my son at the range today, we decided it would make more sense to buy a full size 9mm 75B, move the upper over to my SA frame, and use the new frame to keep my Kadet kit on.

I see two versions of the 75B.  One with an Omega trigger and one without.  The Omega trigger is cheaper it appears.  Thoughts on the Omega trigger versus normal trigger?  I cannot compare as my SA frame had a trigger job done with purchase.

When I did a side by side comparison at a manufacturer shoot earlier this year, I preferred the single action pull of the Omega. I didn't compare DA since I don't shoot that way most of the time.

Kadet 2

Either will work with your Kadet.

I have heard that the Omega is better out of the box, but the original style trigger can be fine tuned better.
