Mag problems with my SP01
« on: July 03, 2006, 09:10:57 PM »
My California neutered 10 round mags I got with my SP01 do not like like my 29mm long JHP handloads. I can load the mags just fine, but the rounds get stuck about halfway down when emptying a mag (or shooting from it).

Has anyone else seen this?

The easy solution would be to make the rounds shorter, but since Im loading with 147gr bullets, I don't want to make them a lot shorter and the ammo has worked just fine in all other guns I've tried it in...

Try some hi capacity mags, mine feed everything fine. Some of the JHP are tight loading the last round, but I have not had any feed issues.

I believe that would be really frowned upon in California under their firearms laws.

You could always switch powders you're using with the 147s to allow for a shorter OAL.  I can remember trying another powder (either HS-6 or AA#7) with a shorter OAL at one time before I quite using the 147 grain XTPs.

Yeah, getting high caps is out of the question :(

One of the reasons I didn't really wanna change the OAL is because the load is really accurate in my 210s and I would like to use the same one. However, since this is for IPSC production I doubt the the pressure will go into dangerous levels even if I make them shorter. I only need to get them up to ~900 fps, so I don't think pressure will be a problem.

Currently using 3.9gr VV 340.

I'll load a few dummy rounds and see how much shorter I need to make them. 28.5, or there abouts should be fine and I dont think I want to go below that. If the SP01 mags can't function with 28.5mm rounds, they're going back to CZ!

I haven't had a single problem using ammo loaded as long as 1.157" (29.38mm) in any of my CZ-75 mags, original capacity or 10 rounders.

Using the chunky 147 bullets, is it possible the bullets are hanging up on the slide stop? Take the slide off, put the SS back in the frame and stick a full mag in there. Thumb the rounds out of the mag and see if you can get them to hang up.

Well, they hang up in the mag even when the mag is not even in the gun, so its definitely a mag/ammo issue.

I have five different types of CZ-75 mags, they all work with ammo loadd out to 1.157". I am less convinced it's an OAL issue, perhaps shortening OAL will fix it, until the ammo shifts forward in the mag or something.

Perhaps the HP is getting hungup on the mag catch notch?

Do you have this problem with FMJ ammo of the same length?

Perhaps it's something else like: sticky follower, weak spring, backwards spring, etc?

I've had the same problem you've experienced except with my TA 90 (CZ 75 copy).

When using some ammo (coughWOLFcough) the rounds will stick in the magazine, sometimes it happens when you load the magazine, and sometimes they stick on the way back up.

Wolf ammo has worked fine in my other 9mms, but my other 9mms are single stack.

I have 5 different magazines and it does this in all of them, so I don't believe it is an issue with his follower or spring IMO.
