CZ75 Tactical vs SP-01
« on: March 25, 2006, 07:32:17 PM »
I have an opportunity for either of these models. Tactical is 30-35% more expensive. To be used for IPSC/IPDA. SP01 appears to be a better bang for the buck. The tactical no longer comes with adjustable sights. But then SP01 does not have the FO front sight either.
Both "feel" the same. IT is a toss-up. Recommendations/commentary would be appreciated.

Are you talking about the 75b tactical or the SP01 Tactical?
I'm not aware of either model ever having adjustable sights?
The SP01 Tactical and the SP01 are the same now other then Decocker vs. manual safety.

I forgot all about the TS Walt, I can't get passed thinking of it as the IPSC.

Sorry that I was not clear: CZ75 Tactical Sport and CZ SP01 (non tactical) both in 9mm.
Ultimately is the CZ75 TS worth the extra $$$. Just starting down the slippery slope to IPSC/IPDA...

If you're just starting down that road -- and haven't shot in competition that much, it may not be worth it.  But a  year or two from now, it might well be worth the investment.

(If you've shot competitively in other venues, disregard that answer.  But if you're really just starting, start with a good SP-01.)

Once you get into it, you may find that you really don't want to go there -- or that some other part of the discipline is calling your name.  Given that, it might be better to start with a smaller budget.

The Tactical Sport in 9mm can not be shot in IDPA because it will not fit the box.  It also does not have a good home in USPSA.  You would be better served by having a .40 to make major in the TS, that would be a good gun in Limited.

The SP-01 can not be shot in IDPA either because it is too heavy for SSP, and therefore with the full length dust cover, too heavy for ESP also.  It does make a good USPSA Production gun though.

The Tactical Sport is also a single action gun, it would only be able to be used in USPSA Limited and Limited 10.  If you were to choose the 9mm version you would be handicapped by scoring only minor and shooting against people scoring major.
The TS does come in a .40s&w version that would be good for Limited 10, and with some work on the mags to get them to 18 or 19 rounds would work in Limited.
If you are wanting to shoot it in both IDPA and USPSA matches a standard 75 or 85 would be fine.  The CZ 85 Combat is an excellent choice.

Just added a Tactical to my stable of CZ's.  Hopefully I should be able to get to the range tomorrow to put a couple of hundred rounds down range.  As good as thi gun feel in my hand, I'll probably have to start reloading 9mm again.  :)
