Rail covers for Bonesteel hand guards?

Well my Bonesteel hand guards finally came today!!!  Love the quality, the fit and the design. Its really a nice product, especially saying its one of the cheapest price wise on the market.

Now I'm looking to put some hand guards on the rails to make it a little more comfortable to shoot. Anyone have any suggestions? I've been looking at anything from the ebay stuff for 5 bucks to the LaRue clips to the Tango down covers which get pretty expensive. What do you guys use?

I like the KAC and the Magpul XT and XTM Enhanced covers.

Ergo grips stuff is cheap and durable.  In particular their ladder rail covers that are much less expensive than magpul.

I use some basic ladder inserts:



Takes the edge off the rails, keeps a slim profile, and gives a good grip.

I order some cheap and cheerful ladders (~$6) off eBay a few days ago.  I hope they dont melt

I shared elbow space on back to back tables the last time I set up a gun show table.  The fellow had a company that made metal reinforced rubber rail covers and had a contract with the USMC, so he was doing pretty good for himself.  On his tables he had the new version of the SAW lent to him for display (don't know model number), a Barret 50 Cal (sold it for $11k) and some other interesting weapons on his table. anyway, he gave me a handful of rail covers that work great, some have wire pass throughs, and some have little pouches to put pressure switches into.  They live on my "go to" VZ58. Good stuff. If I get a chance I'll try to find the company name and post it.

I think I'm looking for more the small detachable covers vs a rubber rail system. The Magpul XTM looks promising. I really like these if they were not $16 a pop. Yes $16 for one rail cover.

Found that Ohio company.  Not near as pretty as the magpuls, but they work pretty on my goto VZ.  Functionality over form if your running wires and operating pressure. switches.

I run the $6 (3- 7" rail ladders) ebay ones on my AR and VZ, they work great.

I believe all of manta's stuff is silicone rubber (like those no stick silicone baking mats) which would put its melting point above 500* F, near 600*F, if standard silicone rubber. 

But based upon this video, it looks like they're using some proprietary blend though -- at least for suppressor sleeves:

Holy crap that scared me a bit when he went to touch it. Didnt realize it transfers heat that well. But while still searching for something proven, I ordered a set of the 12 rubber guards off ebay for like 5 bucks shipped. Looks like un branded UTG stuff. Figured it was worth the shot for that price.

CP - what's your opinion on their recoil reducing stock (specifically for others reading, the stock, not the more common Mako Vz58 buffer tube) -- the top one in that last pic vs the standard?

Works well enough for me - normally lives on a Saiga SGL21 -- same cal. as VZ-58, so should work fine there. Very comfortable, though unnecessary as 7.62x39 has little recoil to begin with and is very manageable without the toys, IMO.

I tend to be a pray and spray shooter and can easily go through 100-250 rounds per firearm per range visit (600 rnds if the UK59 is out to play), so I find it a comfort at times.

Originally put the stock in combo with the recoil tube  on a VEPR54R, but did not work out, recoil drove the spring back to limit and dead-ended, eventually causing the scope to loosen and fly off the side rail no diff how tight I made it  .
