BEST SP-01 Tactical CGW Modifications Tutorial
« on: March 19, 2015, 12:47:40 PM »
I've recently ordered a number of Cajun Gun Works parts for my SP-01 Tactical.  In preparation for the work, I've been doing extensive research.  There are a number of excellent resources on this forum concerning this project.  In fact, it is one of the reasons I've become a member here.

Another excellent resource is the link David from CGW sent me to review before deciding to embark upon this journey.  http://www.ncgunowners.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=42855&page=3

But by far, my favorite resource is a relatively obscure set of videos done by Abyss1232.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yEsdC4EUBZU    SP-01 Tactical Internals Polishing
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VUW5G1bnGGA  SP-01 Tactical CGW Mods and Reassembly Part 1
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yxoz_FeXFS4      SP-01 Tactical CGW Mods and Reassembly Part 2
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n7D1wjA2sgA     SP-01 Tactical CGW Mods and Reassembly Part 3

Invaluable for hacks like me.  He also does a series on the CZ 75B for those of you who are interested.

Thank you for the post! I had not seen this series of videos. I made it through the first two and found them to be well done. There are too few good videos on CZ's in general and especially the CZ decockers. A nice addition to the CZ DIY information base.

This is the first time i have seen the trigger slave pin used on disassembly. Interesting stuff.
Will work for CZ pics! (including but not limited to all CZ clones)

HA!  Just used these videos to smooth the trigger, install a Short Reset Trigger and a Race Hammer from Cajun Gun Works.

Between this excellent tutorial and the incredibly well made and easy to use and install products from Cajun Gun Works, I was able to get this hammered out in one evening.  This from a guy who's background in gunsmithing is basically replacing a firing pin and a trigger spring in a Colt 7.62x39 AR.  I am super stoked.  I can't say enough about the customer service from David at CGW.  I will definitely be giving them my business in the future and would recommend them to anyone.

The only creative criticism I can give the video series above is that by trying to remove the right side decocker lever, I tore up the bottom of the lever a little attempting to remove it as he does.  I found that by applying opposing force with my thumb on the opposite side of the lever just on the other side of where the detent lever spring thing that you push with the flat head, made removal of the lever much easier.

Good luck.  If I can do it.  So can you.

I liked the videos but he seemed to do some stuff a little awkward. Who in the hell would put grease in the firing pin channel?

True RickR, but just because he did it, doesn't mean you have to.  Meanwhile he took the time to film and upload the most comprehensive SP-01 Tactical/decocker model disassembly and reassembly video series I have ever seen.  Made my work so much easier.

The only real complaint I have is his method on removing the right side decocking lever.  But I already went over what I'd do different the next time.  Show me a better resource for this project and I'm all ears.

I'm not sure there's a better source, like I said the videos are good, he just does some things a little awkward.

I watched all of these videos and then did a CGW update on my P-01. Very helpful videos. Thanks.

My plan is to remove the right side decocking lever and cut the nub off, my question is what is going to hold the sear pin in place after the lever is missing?  On my Phantom the plastic frame keeps it all in place.

My 75BD is the same as my SP-01 Tac without the right side decocking lever. They both have no fixing insert like on the RAMI or aluminum framed compacts. The sear pin is larger at one end and can only come out the left side. I do not believe that it is held in by the decocking lever. I assume that the spring tension on all of the sear cage parts holds the pin in place. That is if it is not already pressure fit, those sear pins can be in there pretty tight on there own.

Edit for correction: The decocker Sear Pin is a consistent diameter. From the factory, the Right side frame hole is too small for it to pass through. It can only come out of the Left side

Just tested the Cajun Gun Works parts with Sellier and Bellot 9mm, which is supposed to have hard primers.  The firing pin and hammer spring worked without fail.  Granted 50 rounds isn't very much but so far so great!
