HaHaHa, thanks Rip. I don't mean to sound like I'm complaining. I just feel like I have a hard time with a consistent sight picture, and the focus is tough with "multi-focal" glasses. It seems like I can't get a cheek-weld that gives me a clear image of the front post. I am happy with the targets I shot, but I always feel like if I could get a clear focus and sight picture, I could do better. Maybe it's just part of my personality.

Thanks Rimfire, looking forward to seeing your targets.

Rock great shooting. I too am sighting through glasses that are "multifocal"; but it is still fun to shoot open sights.

I agree, it is something I enjoy doing, and want to do it well. Maybe we need targets with bigger aiming points!!! ;D

Hey guys!  Looks like a lot of fun.  'Never done this before, but do you shoot on a bench or just standing?  Sorry for the newb questions with rifles.

Front rest/bipod only.

Give it a try!
I had the right to remain silent...

but not the ability.

Thanks!  I'll get myself a shooting rest bag (can't bring myself to alter the stock on my 455 Trainer for a bipod) and give it a try.

I'm pretty sure that a bipod that fits on a sling swivel requires no modification, but I use an inexpensive Caldwell bag myself.

Hey ocny17, we'd be happy to have you join in! Riptide usually picks the targets and sets the parameters for each month, so just keep on the lookout for a new thread each month. Mostly it is like painter said, from a bench with a front rest, but sometimes Rip mixes it up a bit, too. Keeps it interesting. We use the honor system, so just follow the rules, and post up your best targets (you can post bad ones too!!, if you don't mind humbling yourself). You can shoot as many targets as you want, and post up your best. I usually shoot 3 or 4, and post the best two. You have to host your pictures on some site like photobucket, and then link them into your post.

Good luck, looking forward to seeing your targets. What rifle will you be shooting?

Rip.......A question. What rests are you thinking are OK for this iron target?  I was using front and a rear bag last night but then didn't know what was allowed.  Was not mentioned in your initial post.
Shooting with my kids and grandkids....that is a fine time.

This sounds like a lot of fun.  I can't get my buddies to go shooting on weekends... something about kids, job, blah blah.  But seriously, I usually go solo at the indoor range, so this will be a great way to keep things interesting.  I'm in!

Oh, I'm a proud new owner of a 455 Training rifle.  I originally wanted to use just the iron sights, but I quickly realized my eyes can't make out the bullseye and the borders past 15 yards.  So, 'had to order a scope since I'd like to shoot at farther distances and see how my shots group.  I'll be asking plenty of questions once the scope comes in since I'm a newb w/ scopes.

Love to have you join us ocny! Your new Trainer will fit right in!

As for front rests, elbows, bi-pod, bean bag, 2x4, really doesn't matter as long as you get to the range.  ;)
Any help we can provide just let us know.
Cheers!

Thanks!  Oh, does this mean I can still submit before end of May?  I'm hoping to get my scope and rings in soon -- never really setup my own scopes, so it's a fun learning process.

We are pretty loose with the ending time around here. Each shoot runs till the end of the month in theory, but in practice, you can usually squeeze the following weekend out of us, especially if you make up an excuse that includes bad weather, working too much, family issues, and/or broken down vehicles. Maybe hospital visits, too.
