CZ 452 varmint: unspent cartridges not ejecting
« on: May 25, 2015, 05:42:11 AM »
hi

I've had ever-increasing trouble with both spent & unspent cartridges not ejecting.  I'll admit to the primary reason - I hadn't cleaned my rifle in ages.  So, I gave it a good clean, including dismantling the bolt and although it will now eject spent cartridges fine, it still won't eject unspent cartridges.

any ideas where I might have missed cleaning that would cause this?  I'm wondering if it's the 2 grooves either side of the chamber?  This was particularly difficult to get to.  Any hints on how best to clean that?

thanks

It could be that the ammo you're using is engraving on the rifling.

It's not completely unheard of if you have a tight chamber.

Anything I can do?  Or just change ammo?

It was fine when the rifle was new by the way.  Although I have changed ammo during that time.

You could try different ammo. What are you using and having trouble with? My 452 Lux has had issues with Aguila.

I'd also inspect the hooks on the extractor and holder closely for chips.

hello

sorry for the delay in replying.  I'm using CCI sub sonics.  However I found some of my old rounds that used to be fine and they're sticking too, so it's not the ammunition type.  I've checked the hooks and they look fine (compared to a friend's who also has a 452).

I tried his bolt, but it didn't seem happy in my rifle.  He reckons that they're very specific to a particular rifle, but I've never heard of that, especially on a mass-produced item such as this.

cheers

You probably need to spend more time cleaning the chamber.
