New 455 22lr varmint barrel
« on: May 25, 2015, 11:27:36 AM »
Recently ordered and received a new 455 22lr varmint barrel set to go along with my 455 17hmr varmint heavy barrel rifle. After exchanging the barrel and cleaning, I bore sighted the rifle in my basement with a laser bore sighter. I took the rifle to the range and shot it and I was pleasantly surprised with my results, I shot at 50 yards with CCI SV 40gr ammo and used a Bald Eagle front rest and Shooter's Ridge rear rest. I have included a scan of the test target that came with the barrel. The rifle shot better than expected. I was a bit rushed due to the fact that a pistol match was being held at the time I was at the range and was only allowed about 30 minutes to get the 455 sighted in. The vertical stringing on the last three shots was, I believe, due to my shooting technique. Overall, had fun shooting both my 455 and 453 which I also was able to shoot.

That's a good group for a new bbl!  According to Dj, the more you shoot it, the better it gets.  I've found that to be true w/ my 17 HMR.  Thanks for posting it!

Thanks awshucks, I was hoping to spend a couple of hours shooting my 453 American 22lr and the 455 with the new 22lr barrel. But that was not going to happen due to respecting the wishes of the pistol match group shooting on the other side of a concrete divider on the 25 and 50 yard range. Along with the CCI SV ammo, I had some NormaTac 22 and Geco 22lr Rifle ammo that I wanted to test. One thing I am happy about is that all my 22lr rifles are able to shoot several ammo brands and I get acceptable to great groups with each brand.
