muzzle brake detent stuck
« on: July 14, 2015, 02:39:51 AM »
I painted my rifle [vz2008] and a few days later I was putting on my muzzle brake and it got stuck I put penetrating oil on it and I scraped the perimeter with sewing needles cause there seems to be paint and other things around there and I hit it with a hammer with a screw driver on the detent to see if I could shake it out of being stuck and it has been about a week of doing this off and on and was unable to do anything and I heard you could push out the front sight post out and remove the spring out and replace the spring or something???? anybody know anything that might help?????

Sounds like something I might get myself into (except with me it would be epoxy or something instead of paint)  :-\

Try a couple well targeted drops of just CLP?

With the gun propped up and properly supported -- muzzle up -- put a drop or two of CLP in/on the detent hole in the morning and come back to it later in the afternoon -- repeat once if necessary.  I believe the CLP will seep in, loosen up any paint, and the spring force will pop out the pin.  Don't let CLP run down all over your gun or that paint might come off too.

Next time USE MASKING TAPE!  ;D

Not sure how stuck the detent pin is..... But i've had success using those cheap neodymium magnets from Harbor Freight.

That's a great idea!, esp. if he can get it un-gummed first.

The front pin on your fsb secures the detent...  You can always drive that out and then lever out the detent pin through that hole...

Depending on what paint you used -- acetone, paint thinner, etc, can be dropped into through that pin hole to help loosen things up too if lubricant won't work.

Have you shot the gun since it became stuck ?
I had a detent stick on one of my AK builds. After I dumped a couple mag's it freed itself up. After I flushed it out with CLP cleaner and never had another problem with it.

if all else fails try paint thinner. of course you are going to have to repaint the bleep thing. next time use masking tape to cover it then paint that part with a brush by hand.

Yep -- you need a paint dissolving solvent at this point...

I've heard of the pin breaking.  Could be the problem here.

arrgh.  >:(

Just happened to me as well.  Century VZ2008.
Pushed the pin in to put a muzzle brake on and there it stayed.  Must be the Teflon coating -- rifle is new no paint job on this rifle.

Ordering a crush washer or jam nut and moving on.

pop out the front fsb and just push that detent out.  Happened to me before too...  Clean some of the teflon off and oil/grease generously...
